Well, I've been a member on here for a while thought it was about time I posted a few pic's of Mandy the Landy (My daughters name for the S3 not mine!!)
She's not too bad, chassis seems fine, engine's ok a little smokey on start up (2.25 petrol) drives ok but gearbox is shot, graunches going into 2nd and jumps out of 2nd and 3rd on overrun. Other work needed :- Bulkhead, Doors, Wings, Brakes, Seats, Swivels, Wheel Bearings, and on and on! But this is going to be a rolling resto not a nut and bolt rebuild, and she is my daily driver so need to keep time in the garage to a minimum.

Gotta say those mirrors look a bit odd!
I take it them plates on the door is because the door top went floppy? Interesting idea!
Good luck with it, some will take offence to you calling it a truck though lol

The door top was like that when I got her, some previous owners idea of a quick fix!! It's completely knacked the door and it only just keeps out the wind and rain!
Lots of people have called it a truck so I just sorta got used to it, but I agree with you not the best of names!!

The mirrors! I wasnt sure how original they were, was thinking of adding defender style door mirrors but they not really a prority at the mo! Must get the gearbox and brakes sorted first!

On the subject of the brakes, my wheel cylinders are confusing me! When I bled the system a couple of weeks ago, I found that the nearside bleed nipples were a different size to the offside
i.e.
Offside needed a 3/8th spanner
Nearside a 7/16th spanner

Is this normal or has someone fitted the wrong ones? Anyone throw any light on this for me

Thanks for the info on the bleed nipples - would that cause problems as I'm having real trouble with the brakes, they're ok for 4 or 5 days then I lose pedal pressure and it just goes to the floor. No amount of pumping brings them back. I've change the master cylinder and the short metal pipe and flexible pipe to the remote resevoir! It's not losing fluid, if anything the level goes up!!!!! Seems to be drawing in air from somewhere but I'm stumped just cant figure out where from

The mirrors do look like motorbike one's, I'm really new to land rovers this being my first, what should it have ?

those are not standard for series 3 they will be for a defender...
series three are smaller with rounder corners...:D

I have never called wing mirrors door mirrors even though I've only ever had door mirrors obviously! Anyhoo I like your wing mirrors ;)

I like the mirrors too so maybe I'll just leave them as they are, got enough to be doing first..

Reading through the forum I've noticed a couple of comments about parabolic springs sagging after only a few months, Mandy needs new springs and I was going to fit para's but now I'm wondering if standard would be better. I dont expect to be carrying heavy weight very often but would eventually like to do some green lanes/off roading so any comments/ideas on springs/dampers would be appreciated

Can anyone throw some light on headlights? I fitted a new column switch and new dashboard switch, and now although my lights work somefing funny goin on!

When I put the dash switch to postion 1 both side and dipped beams come on, in osition 2 only sides. I get Main beam on pos 1 but no headlamp flash at all!

When I replaced both switches I just swapped the wires over like for like?????

Anyone got any ideas

i'd look at the switch very carefully to see what colour wires go where in the switch and compare it to the old one to start with...

if that all matches up then you have another problem

(not all switches are identical from what i've seen)
