So today, wound down the window to say a friendly hello to the neighbour and it wouldn't go up again. Heard the motor turn for a few secs and stop but no sign of the glass. Hmmm, says I.

Later when I had a chance to stop, took off the door pad and ran the motor-- the metal arc thing with the teeth runs about 1/3 of a circle and stops. Then I looked closer and... well the pics tell all.

There was no sound, no crack, no bang, but this is clearly broken wouldn't you say? So what's the fix, is it worth dismantling and fixing or is it sold as a complete window mechanism unit etc? Your comments are humbly solicited!

On this occasion, i can definatly, without fear of contradiction, and with consumate confidence that my opinion will not be contradicted state that your thingy has broken.

Au contraire mon brave .. you say it's a thingy, Rasheed says it's actually a thingamy .. so who's right?

I'd say it's somewhere between the two and call it a thingmy.

Sorry of course you are completely correct. It must be my age, i do at times lately have trouble distinguishing thingamies, thingies and thingymajigs from each other. Perhaps it would have been better to refer to it as a window winder mechanism actuator arm.

And here he is ...Mr Larr-de-Darr Tony.... " Excuse me my man but my Window Winder Mechanism Actuator arm appears to have malfunctioned, be a spiffing old bean & point me in the correct direction of a repair can you

Cheers Sport"

To which the reply would quite obviously be ....... "Oh Roger, wllco Ginger What what"

Nice one Keith. What people don't realise is that Thingies, Thingimajigs, Whatsits, Ujimaflips, Doodaas, Whatdoyoucallits are all the same thing or a mixture of differing things as the case maybe. Asking for one of these at the parts counter usually generates a blank expression or a look of disbelief on the face of the counter assistant. The only thing you can be sure of when he or she, not forgeting the fairer sex (homosexuals are not included in that reference) will be, when he or she finally works out what you mean they will charge you at least twice what it's worth. My better half bless her is on the lookout for a special tool she thinks i need for jobs around the house. As i have told her i will do them when i get "Aroundtoit".

PS How did you know i have a pilots licence?

Hi Rasheed,

It certainly would appear that your window regulator is indeed broken, but from what I can see from the picture a steel rivet might just fix it. It should only take about 10 minutes to fix.

Think a Mig welding plant maybe quicker than a rivet that's if you can find anywhere to put the rivet without making a plate to join the two sections to put the rivet through. Think it's the pivot that's given up and it's knackered.
