How much can you (easily) turn the wheel either way before the actual front wheels start to move (well, how much can you turn it with the engine off before anything bites?)
 
To be honest I am not sure on exacts but I think it turns with good response to the steering wheel. I have however noticed a kind of slight grinding sound/feel when turning (and not moving)... Not sure if this is the same issue?

Maybe it is just that I am not used to driving a vehicle that has body role...
 
Aye check yer drop arm ball joint and if it's buggered then this might help....

Also check the shaft that goes from the steering column to steering box to see if the uj's on both ends are fine and don't have lots of play by givin' it a guid push and pull.....

Check your bushes too. Radius arm, suspension and drop arm. Mine were all shot when I got it and changing them transformed it. they keep the body sitting firmly on top of the wheels and suspension and stop it rocking back and forth and side to side.

Mine used to feel like it was oversteering from one side to another and would not hold a straight line.
 
Welcome. I'm no expert but what sort of tyres have you got on her? I put chunky off roads on my 110 last time and it was like steering a boat, compared with the rangemasters that were on previously. If not the tyres have the trackrods etc looked at. They shouldn't be that bad to drive. Atb
 
Yep - know what you mean!

Bought my first landy (H reg ex MOD Defender 110) 2 months ago and was somewhat disconcerted whilst test driving it that there was about 3 to 4 inches (old money!), of circumferential play at steering wheel centre. I was assured that this is normal and was offered a test in a newer vehicle of the same type - exactly the same! It's surprising how quickly you get used to this. Just like motoring used to be - Great!:)
