Hi all,

My inner redneck fancied a Dixie horn! So bought one from eBay.

Fitted today using a couple of offcuts of wood sprayed black (see, even the install is redneck style!). The length of the tubing they give you is pathetic, around 60cm for 5 horns. Luckily my dad had some spare tubing. I've fixed it to the inner wing on the drivers side.

Wired up a push button which I installed in one of the switch blanks.

The install took around 5 hours as I had to throw tools around in the garage for part of that. None of my saws can cut in a straight line (or is that the operator at fault....)

Took it away from the neighbours to give it my first test.

Errr that doesn't sound like the general lee!

They've sent the wrong horn   that's La Cucaracha!!! I've sent a very stern email to the eBay seller to get the right one! Obviously this one is out the packaging and scuffed up from the install so they'd better just send the correct one.

I also notice that it plays really fast - from what I've read, it can be slowed down by using a thinner gauge of wire - is that correct?

Maybe I'll just have to roll with it and get a sombrero if not!!!

I had some on an old Mini and they were a lot slower than that
The tune sounds about right but its way too fast, horns not blowing as they should

Any ideas how to slow it down? Obviously the tune is the wrong one, but I assume the Dixie one will be equally quick.

Lol it works now. That's funny as fook

Glad it entertained you! Lol!!!

Lucky I didn't hook it up to the main horn button - wouldn't display my anger very well if someone cuts me up!!!

The dixie one sounds a bit like yours only slowed down a lot, prob about 5 seconds or so start to finish

are these a proper set of air horns like wot they used to sell us boy racers
Or a electric gizzmo

I quite fancy fitting a ships fog horn to the roof, no idiot would cut you up and be able to hear for a few weeks after :D

I had thought of doing this myself but had an even more 'off the wall' idea so now I'm on the lookout for pucker ice cream van tones for my 90 :)

Have a look on YouTube, there are a few train horns fitted to cars - not sure about a ship!!!

Are you trying to attract children to the back of your Landy? People like you get put on some sort of register :D

Finally, I've got it sorted!

The seller sent another compressor which was wrong again! Then after several eBay messages they asked 'have you fitted it correctly'

Can I just say - avoid Passion_Automotive on eBay, they are totally inept!

They are supposed to be refunding me - which hasn't happened yet.

Bought another one from a different seller and it's excellent!

If you lived here in the USA, the "Dixie" would get you into boat loads of trouble with the PC Police.

However, "La Cucaracha" would been seen as a celebration of diversity.

That's cool, really like it! A mate of mine found it a pain to have to hold the button for the correct length of time to complete the tune so he wired in some other bits out of a door bell or something so you just give it a quick press and it plays the full tune then stops. Pretty handy as you can have the horn going and then use the same hand to display your appreciation for the other driver's driving manners and still hold your beer.

That does surprise me, I assumed the USA would be absolutely fine with it. Although I've got an image of me getting pulled over by boss hog now!
