No, but I investigated a couple of set-ups that turned out to be crooks before I entrusted my A8 to an outfit in Newark. I just looked-up Tayside Land Rover on the Defender 2 forum with what appears to be great feedback.

I asked because it highlites what these type of crooks do and how they operate...not nice...would you have left your A8 for 18mth and 7.5k with them?...

I'd already said I wouldn't, but we're not all wired the same are we? I didn't give the garage ANY money but, as I'd gone through a divorce and was living in a caravan at the time, they said they'd wait until we sold the house for payment. The cost escalated from £1800.00 plus vat for replacing hydraulic valve lifters plus any other stuff they found when stripped down, to over £7k. When engine was out and stripped down, I saw the big ends had gone as well as other stuff too. After they rebuilt it and I saw it all back together again, engine running fine, they said they wanted immediate payment. As we'd agreed payment when house was sold, they reluctantly agreed. Some months later when house was sold and finances agreed after divorce, I discovered they had applied for a new V5 saying I'd sold the car without giving them the docs. To rub salt into my wounds, DVLA fined me about £380.00 for selling car to a dealer without advising them. Absolute bandits...both the garage AND DVLA. Only bit of satisfaction I had subsequently, was when the engine they had rebuilt blew up under warranty shortly after they sold the car on. They got their just desserts, but I lost my pride and joy.

Hi and welcome!

Sorry to hear about your problem. Be careful if you turn up, don’t go alone. If you don’t get it back or the company are evasive, report it to Police and Trading Standards as they might have had other reports about the company. I would suggest that the time that they’ve had it, the work should have been done or you’ve have had numerous updates so something doesn’t look right.

There’s a discussion on the forum about a company with similar practices who rebuilt engines who were finally taken to court which is worth a read.

Let us know how you get on.

When you visit, I'd suggest you have a dashcam recording what happens and a phone in a breast pocket recording too.

Sorry to hear of yer problems. Any news?

If not good then police, insurance and trading standards.

Poor sod. Once had to threaten to bring the law with me to pick a car up from a company that were repairing it. They then suddenly got on with it. but there are some right sh!ts in the world.
Faceache may be the place to "advertise" these peeps if they turn out to be crooks. As long as all you post is true and can prove it, it isn't libel.
Did the OP not get any receipts for work done? Who hands over £7.5 K without? We will see.

A snippet from a faceache page

"I was living in Norway when I gave my 110 to the company called Tayside Landrovers. Finally got it back 4 years later.......... "

Sounds like it may be the case that they work the fastest on the Landy belong to he who shouts loudest is the most annoying or threatens the most effectively. There is a 4x4 specialist not too far away from us who also took forever to do what should have been a simple job. In the end they had to sub the job out to a company that really knew what they were doing. There are cowboy outfits everywhere sadly.

Used to be the M. O. of many backstreet AND main dealers back in the 1970's. Sadly, it appears that time seems to have stood still with numerous examples of cowboys still at large...

I had a similar experience with garage who had Golden Girl for 4 months. I had to threaten legal action. Told them I had recorded every visit and every phone call.
Car was released, unfixed, to the stealers they had taken her to, without my permission.
Few weeks later one of the owners killed a guy with a knife, on the premises!
