MY first trip off road at Glentarkie in my standard Disco

My first trip off road at Glentarkie doing some mild hill climbs, descents and water crossings before doing a few mods I have in mind. It was very capable standard and I was very surprised how well it coped. looking forward to adding some mods as well as a good set of wheels and tires.

They are very capable in standard form, you don't need to change it a lot to get your just about anywhere, probably the tyres are the most important thing. I did put some protection on mine as well though.

I wasn't planning on doing a massive amount of changes, but after reading and seeing some of the posts here, I'm going to at least go for a 2" body lift with the same 2" suspension lift a good set of wheels and tires and maybe some other bits and pieces. I'll keep you posted and take some pics when the work does start.

Have you driven off-road before? I am thinking of going and just wondering if any landyzone members are due a visit there?

Just wondering what size tyres you are going for?

I can see a potential 2" lift a good start, but an extra 2" of body lift is odd unless you are going for 35", I run 235/85R16 on std springs and shocks and can't really see much if any benefit of going above the planned 2" lift in the spring.

As you can see, the new ones were just a little bit bigger at roughly 33"

Just remember, bigger tyres + suspension lift already lifts your Discovery quite a lot, do those before committing to a body lift, you might not like how it handles as a sky scraper :hysterically_laughi

I might just take your advice on that and do the suspension lift and bigger wheels for starters. See how I get on from there. I'm just back from another little trip to Glentarkie again.

Whats the costs for this off road place?

Is Glentarkie the Scottish off road centre in Fife? I think it's £150 a year membership but you can go as often as you want. Correct me if I'm wrong or its changed? Not been there for a couple o years now.

Ye I used to go up there alot and I am a member but it was in my Suzuki Vitara. Now I've found myself up there every weekend since getting the Disco. And it still is £150 a year, you get to use it when ever and for as long as you like and after that you can use the club house to warm up with a coffee and use the power washer too.

Is there regularly people there every Sunday? What about other days during the week or Saturdays or do must folk just go on a Sunday? Always fancied joining for the weekends when my club don't meet.

Having had a few modified and standard 4x4s, I find a bog standard 4x4 with standard size but more agressive tyres will suprise most people.
Once you start modding it it may well look better but sometimes this can create another set of problems.
I would just change the tyres and then only do the other stuff if you really have to

I've never been up there through the week, its always weekends I turn up. Sometimes its only one or two 4X4's up there and other times it quite a bit more. They do have club meetings and I believe they are busy but I've not made it to one yet.

£150 a year and go play anytime? Why isn't there something like this around the Yorkshire area or am in the dark here?

Even one play a month is less than £15. Very tempting.
