My first project rebuild

New to both Land Rovers, and forums but trying to learn both as I go along so please feel free to offer help / advice and generally ridicule my efforts!
Having taken part in my first rally type event earlier this year, I have now committed to going every year as well as to several other events during the months ahead. Naturally I decided that I would require another Discovery with a few gentle modifications and of course air conditioning ( I live in Spain ). I am not a mechanic and will not be going in to great depth about how I did this or that as there are no doubt many people here who will know far better than me the correct way of doing things - just thought I would share the experience and possibly help anyone thinking of doing the same. Firstly, this is the White Disco 1 that we used for the rally - mechanically sound and nothing particularly wrong with it apart from the lack of air con - we still use this one for playing in so it is now part of the family.http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/...er Discovery Rebuild/DSC00255_zpsf36ade9c.jpg

Secondly, this is the start of my preparations on the ´new´ Disco 2 - it is fair to say that I should have had a slightly better look around and checked the obvious areas for rust! http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/...very Rebuild/2013-06-04172952_zpsac784117.jpg

Having had a decent look around it was clear that there was a tad more to do than I had anticipated so I will add a bit more every few days with what else I found and what we did to put it all back together again. Still plenty left to do.

Ok, continued my digging around at the back end and established that a new boot floor was going to be required - on the plus side these are cheap to buy, on the down side I can´t weld so had to get a fair bit of help with this side of things. I know that many of you will say that it is easy enough to learn however I want to know that even if it is not done exactly as the factory intended I will know that it is not going to fall apart the first time I hit a speed hump. As you can see from the following pictures we had to cut a fair bit of the sides out and replace a couple of the cross members.

While the welding continued, I thought I might as well have a bit more of a dig around just to make sure that there was nothing else to worry about whilst we were at it. Of course a gentle prod with a screwdriver was all that was required to uncover the following :-

Probably should have taken a few more pictures, but to summarise we have the following bits to do :- Drivers foot well repairs, passenger foot well repairs, bottom of drivers side B pillar, rear edge of both sills, bottom of C pillars at the top of the wheel arch, both rear wheel arches to repair, both front wheel arches and a couple of other random bits and bobs.

I would point out that whilst I intend to keep this one for some time, It is not intended to be concours standard just solid and functional. It will get used at least once a year for a Rally in Morocco, it will get off roaded as much as time allows, it will also need to serve as transport for my dogs and towing a small trailer. All in all it will be a multi purpose vehicle and I just need to make sure that it is structurally sound.
