my first P38 heart break

I new it was going to happen but i didnt expect it to be this soon.

Ive just brought a 1998 P38 111k LPG fitted £3k. Ive only had it less than a week but already love it.

I took it to my mechanic (who has a P38) for a quick once over.....and this is whats wrong with it.

It needs:

Brake Booster Unit
Full Exhaust
Radiator

and i need to rad weld it.


Anyone breaking a vehicle ?


Im going to replace the exhaust myself with a mate (or try to) but i have a feeling that the brake booster unit is a little out of my league? or is it.

Are there any how to guides around for this sort of thing?

why do you need to rad weld it if your fitting a new rad? shouldn't need to and makes your mechanic sound like a rookie.
make sure you use a decent rad (not a used one) go for new or refurbish your own,
exhaust is easy enough to do:D
dunno about the booster though, why does he say it needs it?
 
Rad weld can cause more problems than it fixes, i recently had to have a new rad on my l322 and the garage that did it said the the rad weld if not done properly can cause severe damage to the coolant system if all the excess it not fully flushed out of the system.
 
might be worth taking it to landmark landrover, or at least a phone call wouldn't hurt
Its on the A252 (canterbury rd) NR Challock,Ashford its not that far from u.
U can see it on google maps its between Green lane & Monkery Lane, sorry dont no the number

Should add its not a main dealer just a LR specialist, and that i've not used them just saw it when passing
 
Check very carefully before you conclude that the booster is leaking. You won't be the first to find that the "leak" is coming from the reservoir cap and running down.
That happens from overfilling the brake reservoir.
There are Max/Min lines on the reservoir. Follow them. If you're overfilled just bleed some off from the first and obvious bleed valve. ( Depressurise the system first...ignition off...30 presses on pedal : wait 30 secs. 4 more.....open bleed valve..with bleed pipe attached....run off a little and check levels.)
Replacing the booster unit is a biggish job.....worth checking the above first.
 
I honestly don't know the answer to that but the ABS circuit is linked in to the dash brake light. That comes from the connector that you'll see on the top of the reservoir : there's also a wire from the ABS pressure pump that talks to the dash light.
There's an easy way to find out.....bleed off some of the brake fluid !
The space in the top of the reservoir is needed for when the pressure is applied to the fluid by the pump and some of it goes to the accumulator....thenis displaced by the pedal operation.
You'll find the circuit diagram on Rave>Electrical Troubleshooting>Circuits>ABS.
BTW, don't be fooled into thinking I know what I'm talking about.....I'm a total amateur on his first P38...I just happen to be working my way round it and I still have ABS problems : that "overfill" is one which I have personally experienced.
