All started very well. Got all the parts I need and one (rotor filter) I have no idea what its for. To make things easier I bought a suction pump that sucks the oil out from the dip stick hole so no climbing underneath. A few days off work and a beautiful sunny day.
Now I have had some really tough services in my day and this fortunately wasn't one of them. However, the sucker pump tube was too thick to go down the dipstick hole so a trip to a pet store for some thin silicone hose. Got all connected up and after maybe 30 mins got about 0.5 litre, so, after watching the postman laughing at me, under I went armed with a large turkey roasting tin. I just need to point out that we had new block paving fitted in January. Sump plug out, roasting tin full, sump plug in. poured the waste oil into wifes mop bucket, think we need a new one, sump plug out again and emptied fully.
For filter removal I have a plastic handle with a rubber band. Or at least that would have been as much use so off to Halfords where I bought a filter removal band.
Disconnected the fuel filter wires and popped the new filter tool on. Im guessing it has been a few years since this was last changed cos it was nasty but with Hulk strength was able to cover a good area of block paving with diesel. New filter on and wires connected.
Sump plug back in and after a few mins of head scratching as how to get the filter remover in place added some oil to the driveway. New filter in place and tightened up to god knows what and time to start up. I was expecting a struggle as I guessed there would be air in the fuel with changing the filter and at second attempt, when the fuel pump sounded happier, away we go.
Some washing up liquid on the oily bits of the drive and a scrub down. Rinsed off with the garden hose which sprayed water everywhere except where I wanted it making an ugly clean patch on my Landy.
So was quite a good event by my standards once I stopped trying to save time with new gadgets. Would welcome any pointers as to what this last filter if though. I googled rotor and the hits were to do with the brakes. dunno if im missing something simple.
