Hi everyone I recently purchased a 2002 l322 td6 with 149k. It's a beautiful car and I love it, constantly worried about big bills though. Is this a real worry or can these cars actually be reliable?

I'm sorry, but why buy a car that you will always worry about o_O Big bills are synonymous with vehicles designed & marketed for buyers with deep pockets & often more money than sense. When purchased used & with 150k on the clock they can become a money-pit, that's why they are on the market. A full service history is desirable as is a understanding bank manager.

X1. Expect some problems to arise with the complex accessories and electrical systems. They're design life is around 8 years and that level of mileage. Problem with these models is unless you have the equipment and knowledge you have no choice but to go to garages. Try to avoid JLR dealerships if possible.

Yes, that's the only reason I dont drive a Range Rover, the repair costs of running an old one with high mileage. Well, that and the fuel costs. Most of the car is not essential really and if some of the electrical systems fail, you can live without them as long as the engine keeps going. The thing is though, that if your going to drive a flash motor, you want all of it to work otherwise there's no point. If it starts getting expensive you can always sell it, maybe at a loss but at least you've had the joy of owning one for a while.

I didn't buy it, I swapped it for a motorbike I had. Always liked them but didn't purposefully go out and spend my hard earned at that moment. So you would say 150k is high mileage? Having owned Volvo's for ten years 150k was considered pretty low LOL.

Then Welcome to the world of Land Rovers mate !!....the motor is 2002 the real world is 2017 does that not tell you something ?

That's a well nice colour.

Sorry I have no further input as I drive a banger of a 90. BUT keep up with your preventative maintenance religiously and be proactive about replacing worn items etc and you minimise (a bit) the chances of a big bill (mainly by spreading it about!). Also dont skimp on cheap parts, but also don't pay JLR dealer prices for mechanics. Find an Indy and fit OEM spec parts will help keep costs down.

OR set yourself a time limit, say a year, then move it on at that point regardless and get something different.

Got to agree with @norseman , why have it if you're already worried if you can afford the upkeep. If you can't afford to run it, sell it, then put the money into something you can afford the upkeep of.

P.s it's nothing like a Volvo. It is not as reliable, it is not as cheap to run , the parts are not as cheap and there are not as many people able to work on them. But on the plus side it is a much higher ride height, much better at getting horse-trailers out of muddy fields and rescuing other 4x4s out of the snow than a Volvo.
