Hi Guys, I've been a member for a long time now but i have just got my first disco it's a 300tdi (any good?)
seems to drive ok, got home after buying and i have a strange rumbly noise at certain revs,, does not sound like anything i have heard before, it only does it at certain revs so guessing its something vibrating?
But at the moment the main issue is the passangers footwell is soaking,,, will this rot my floor out? I heard its a common fault but what is the most likely cause and is it not too hard to sort? the floor looks solid from underneath at the moment, the rubber mat was full of water so it's leaking from above somewhere, i know the p38 i had was similar and was blocked drain holes but are these the same and where would they be?
any help would be brilliant,
thanks guys

I would be checking the inner wings - both sides very carefully.
Had this recently on my Project
Firstly when I removed the front wing I thought it looks quite good, however

When I started prodding the metal near to the door - found this

And had to keep cutting away rust

Also found the footwell to be a bit rusty in places

and when you start tapping lightly, you end up with

Took a few months of cutting out but the Project passed an MOT last week after extensive welding and some mechanical work
So get in there and find your leak

If you can weld its a plus with any landrover get the carpets up and you may find that the floor is rotten already.

yep, inner wing as bigeeee said but I would also be checking the sunroofs.

when I first got mine it was the same, I stripped the roof lining out and removed the sunroofs, cleaned all the plastic up and the roof, and renewed the sealant that holds the sunroof in the car. I then used a compressor to blow down the drain pipes and last of all the little plastic clip parts that fit into the underside of the sunroof need to be re sealed. did all this and was pleased as punch.

last week it started leaking again!!! stripped it all down to find that now it is the actual rubber seals!!! I have chosen to seal them permanent now, as the only time I ever opened then was to let moisture out (that was only in because they leaked!!)

there are loads of guides on here about the ins and outs of what needs doing on the sunroofs, my personal tip is use a screw gun to take it apart and put it back together. but do not over tighten with the gun when putting back together.

good luck

Regards the rumbling vibration. Get the motor up in the air. And have a good look and feel around. It could be a number of things, prop rubber damper, knackered mounts, something loose and needs tightening. Trust me take nothing for granted, it's a Landrover it could be a dozen things. It really is a process of elimination, and it's the only way you'll get to know your way around.
With the leaks start with the easy option, DONT start taking wings of etc. Drop glove box check for signs of leakage down the A frame, under the bonnet in the corners below the bonnet brackets where the water runs into of the screen etc, it can leak in here. Take your time done one thing at a time, if you try do it all in one go you'll fail and pack in ****ed off. It's fun and satisfying.
Good luck

do you have roof bars? I have heard that they leak in from there also, I don't have any so cant say from first hand. also could be the windscreen, they are known to leak

thanks, being disabled and on a tight budget i always look and hope for an easy option, I feel i've been a bit tucked up on this car, I got it off someone who has told me a few porkies, I am having key problems now as I dont like remotes the seller assured me i dont need them but it wont start without the sodding button being pressed first, i hate this as if i lose or break it i'm stuffed, he said it's the best one he';s ever driv!!! I should of known he was a bull ***tter from the moment he said that ! I was tempted to say DROVE!!! I will try and find someone who can look at it for me but I dont want to get mugged, I'll have a go myself but i cant really get up in there,
if anyone on here can help i'd be grateful

no roof bars, i tried to get as least as possible to avoid faults and still ended up with them,,,,

Sounds like a leak further up the footwell ... behind the glovebox area ... might see something under the screenwash reservoir ...
or the windscreen ... tis a pain tracking water ingress ...
