Hi All,

I have longed for a Defender 90 but they have always been financially out of my reach. I finally had the chance to snap one up at an auction. Its a Defender 90 TD5 2002 71000 miles. Got it for just under £6000.00... Quite a bit I know, got carried away at the auction :(.

Anyway all was fine picked up the defender and it drove well for a mile or so but, yes there's a but... as soon as I hit a steep incline I lost power to walking speed. Its almost like the vehicle was starved of fuel.

To cut a looong story short I had to get the vehicle towed to garage, not a good start to my first land rover. The mechanic reckons its the fuel pump or injectors or possibly a blockage...he also said i payed a fair price for it however im not too sure. To make matters worse he told me its been used in salt water !! arghhh worse thing i could of heard at this point..I mentioned the under carriage looks wax oiled and looks fine.. yes it has but it was done recently he said and probably covering rust :( . Tail gate is quite rusty and few panels are showing some rust. the engine bay looks full of rust as well :( What have i done!!! I couldn't look at any of this as it was in an auction before hand... buyer beware indeed! NEVER AGAIN...

Anyone know a good de-rusting kit?!? :( Or should i just sell it on before the rust spreads and starts showing up everywhere.

I'll try get some photos on here once its out of the shop.

Cheers

welcome, and don't be too hasty to sell :D

the peeps on here have a massive wealth of knowledge and experience with all things landy :welcome2:

Every auction I have been to you can look the cars over before hand, obviously can't drive em!

Change fuel filter first, cheapest option, good luck with it, oh and welcome lol

Whereabouts are you? Maybe someone close might give it a quick once-over and maybe advise on what you can do to get it running OK and looking good again .. :)

Fuel filter, air filter, charge the battery so it starts better -
clean the intercooler out ... usual service items ...

Hi Johnny, I live in jersey at the auction here you can inspect the vehicle but can't look under the hood or in the vehicle.

I'm first getting the battery recharged as its knackered obviously been sitting around a long time! Followed by fuel filter, air filter then fuel pump.

Does anyone know where I can buy land rover paint zambezi silver online?
