I brought it and was not that well in the know and a tad over excited but thats all part of the fun of it

Its a 300Tdi Discovery 1 on an M plate although im not sure what side of the crossover it is for ordering parts yet

As with most of my cars that I plan to keep, use and want relaible I generally strip them, find all the issues I can so then when its done there are no hidden bodges to find !

As expected there was rust but more than I thought there would be (as it always seems) !

The boot floor was totally shot along with the side panels and wheel arches - doubt the 2inch thick sponge that was fitted from the factory helped

Upon poking around / stripping other areas it became evident that there was more needed !

Passenger front door shut going soft

Drivers side rear door shut going soft

Drivers side scuttle tray

Front wheel arches are also wrecked but no pictures im afraid but im sure you all know about them

Heater matrix has also been bypassed so guess that it leaks so going to replace that anyway

Fuel tank strap is also returning to nautre so ended up getting another (not cheap

So I got the cutter out and have gone for it - its being welded by Terry - a bloke I met via a local 4x4 club and to say he is helpful and sound is an understatement

Cutty cutty grindy grindy

Turns out rearcrossmember is shafted so new one from YRM - awesome service and the part is a great fitment

Body off ! Dont think ill ever be tacking it that far in !
The fact ive got my first seperate body car is enought - let alone seperating them

looks like it's coming on nicely, amazing what difference a few new panels makes, it starts to take shape

Does make one hell of a difference to the general look of the vehicle even though its certainly no looker :(

enclose em in

Thanks :)

Next attempt at pictures !

Rear is now finished unless anything else is found so on to the middle and front

Its not too neat but most will be covered and its a bit of a work horse anyway

Thanks :)

Id 100% reccomend the YRM one due to the fit and the cost. Also if you ring them up you can get nly the bits you need as I didnt need the 2 end pieces :D

How long did it take you i need to do exactly the same job, but i cant weld :(

Long enough

If you cant weld I wouldnt advise doing it yourself tbh.

I can weld to an extent but didnt trust myself with the rear cross member so got a fabrication friend to do it.

As for time it all comes down to how well you work / how much needs doingetc - you cant stick a figure on it I dont think :(

if you cant weld... learn.

i bought a mig off ebay, watched videos on youtube on how to weld, asked a mate to show me... and I repaired my front inner arches, rear arches, etc...

and tomorrow im attacking the rear crossmember

i taught my sister to weld once thought it was funny she was pretty good tbf:eek:

More progress has been made :)

Basically the drivers sill was getting a tad soft in places and the scuttle tray had been filled with sealer so choppy choppy platey platey. By the time everything is refitted then it will all be hidden anyway :)

best thing is not to have any carpets or crappy plastic covers anywhere to hide rust, first thing i did was rip it all out :D

thats a tidy job your doing - and youre right about yrm, there service and quality is terrific, i used their inner wings last year no problems.

V8 Disco - Just my thinking :D

traxx99 - must agree - top place :)

Bit more welding progress

A nice crack had appeared by the seat mount so that got a nice line done on it
