loving it so far, no problems made myself a checklist before i bought the car of the regular faults and it passed them all :D

Some of the checks
All windows working no noises
No Castelating on tyres
Drivetrain - propshaft VCU IRD and Diff - all ok for now lol

no kangarooing - ok
cam sensors -ok
front wishbones/anti rollbar ball joints and bushes - ok
no 3 amigos - ok

no oil on coolant - ok
new air/fuel/oil filters and oil changed -ok

to do:
1. ERG block off, clean UIM
2. Can anyone point me to where the Crankcase breather value is (pictures in engine) ive not got my haines manual through yet lol
also where can i get a new one or can they just be cleaned?
3. going to run some diesel cleaner to the fuel

Where are you going to put the clutch fluid in an auto?

If your changing auto oil in a Freelander 1 auto, DON'T UNDO ANY BOLTS ON IT until you know the correct one, for the level plug, and the correct method of setting the correct oil level. Tis all on ere.

Sticking parking brake, pivots can seize inside drum and automatic adjusters stop self adjusting (ratchet plate is cheapo tin and bends out of line). Locate the fuel filter (in front of O/S/R wheel under body) and give the cover securing bolts (3) a good soaking with penetrating oil or the bolts will shear when trying to change the filter (60,000 miles).

thanks, added to the to do list :D

Hi , I'm also in the process of buying a 2004 td4 auto, it got 72k on, but i am slighty worried because of the following

- it has no service history, 1 service in 2005 and 1 in 2008
- the front left tyre is more worn than the other 3, it looks like the other 3 have been replaced and that one has not,

I have offered 6k for it, the car is immaculate inside and out and drives great with no noises, I have put 200 deposit on the car but feel slightly worried that I have been side-tracked by the leather interior and alloys instead of the more important bits you chaps know so well about, your thoughts please

Sounds expensive to me. VCU could be a problem here due to the miss matched Tyres. No service history - keep your fingers crossed - get a warranty at that price.
