my dads had landrover defenders for years and ive always loved off-roading so last year i decided to buy my all time favourite discovery 2 td5 to off-road.
it was a cat d due to needing a new front bumper in a snow related accident, it had done 78,000 miles and was completely standard. i managed to get it for £4000.
i beleive it is a millenium edition, not sure whether thats a limited edition or not?
so for the last 5 months ive been customising it to perfom well off-road and a sort of expedition vehicle!
So far i have changed the following:
Im now just waiting to wire brush down the chassis and axles etc and rust proof while im at that im going to re-bush the whole vehicle.
the other thing i will be adding is the NAS rear tow hitch assembley so i can have a removable rear winch that is on a tray (from extreme) that i can chuck in the back so i dont lose any departure angle! and im going to change the springs over to 3" lift to accomadate all the extra kit i have on board.
so far all the work has been carried out by myself except for the gearbox, im not a trained mechanic by all means but have played with bikes cars quads for a few years. was great fun and time consuming but worst of all is the amount i have spent now on parts and accesories.
so far ive pretty much covered all the green lanes around east sussex been to boxgrove pit and slindon a couple of times and done a weekend on my own at salsibury plain.
i am now looking at doing a weekend in wales somewhere!
