Hi all,

Well was sorting out one of my seat belts tonight and my suddenly the boot
floor went crunch. Went hunting for the culrit and found two holes in the
floor, thankfully at either side of the fuel tank. Also I have a small hole
on the sill. So it looks like I will be buying a welder. The question is
what thickness of steel do I need to purchase?

I have arc welded in the past and mig welded once. So I suspect if I can
arc weld I should be able to mig weld. Plenty of practice needed.

Any help anyone ?

Also if you are flogging a welder and anywhere near the North East - then
give me a shout and I might cross your palm with silver.

Andrew - it's a common fault in the discovery. Water gets in near the
alpine lights and gutters, runs down and collects under the boot floor,
which then rusts.

You can buy a repair panel for about 50-60 quid, then drill out the spot
welds and remove the old panel. Tedious, but not too difficult. Be
careful if cutting - the fuel tank and pipes are just underneath.

Some people have suggested installing the replacement with body sealer
and/or pop rivets and/or self tappers rather than welding. That means
you can waxoyl/hammerite the underside before installation.

There has been lots of discussion about this recently on the Land Rover
Owner International discovery forums, www.lro.com.

i had the same problem i have usedmazel metal to overcome this , which is
used in warship repair and is stronger than some welding and a lot easier
and neater,
good luck in the repair though
