Hi!!!
I bought a 99 disco not too long ago.... during the summer everything was just fine... but when winter came i realize that the heating sistem was not working... it blows cold air.... it starts to blow hot air when i'm rubbing the engine to hi rpm.... but as soon I stop or reduce the speed... the rpm go down and starts to blowing freezing air again...HELP PLEASE!!!!

Thanks

V8 then? Would be wise to check your coolant level first, but from your description of the fault it sounds like the thermostat is stuck open so you're over cooling all the time you're not putting much load on the engine. Possible there's an air lock in there somewhere but I'd expect it to be a bit more erratic in the way the temperature goes up and down.

well... yesterday the heating gage wen up for first time... i though it may be becouse I was trying to fin a patern on the damage.... so i rub the engine for a wile at 3000rpm... as soon I atart driving the temp went down to normal...

changing the thermostat is not a big deal for what I'm reading on line... what do you thing... have you ever done it?

Never done it on a V8 but pretty much everything else I've owned has needed it doing at some point, I doubt it's all that different for the V8. 10 to 15 minutes provided the bolts come undone nicely and you spend a bit of time cleaning the old gasket of the mating faces.

I'm verry glad I found this forum... you have been verry helpfull!!!!
thanks and I'll probably trouble you againg some time... thanks again!!!

think ya self lucky Adz a couple of years back i had a vauxhall omega v6 that needed a new stat. After myself an 2 coach mechanics spent an hour trying to find it i finally relented and called vauxhall for some advice, to be told by a chuckling mechanic that they booked it as a 3 hour job and that the whole injection system had to be removed to get to it and that it was also adviseable to remove timing covers for ease of access. what he didn't tell me however was that the pipework to the stat housing is an interference fit that you won't be able to check has sealed till you've completely put it all back together needless to say i'm now an expert a stripping the top ancillaries from a v6 omega.. I have no knowledge at all of the disco v8 but sincerely hope its far easier than vauxhalls ridiculous positioning

Glad I got shot of my one then before I had to do that... mind you, not all Vx's were that bad, Cav (4 pot 1600 and GSi 2000) was easy enough.

Mind you, freelander V6 is a nightmare apparently so mebbe it's just V6's

Another thing to try would be to flush out the coolant, in particular disconnect the hose to the heater matrix, shove the nozzle of a garden hose in and wash the system through for 5-10 minutes, or until the water runs clean - then fill with a good quality antifreeze etc (LR recommened the pink, NOT blue) as the engine has lots of alloy parts !!

Ours had exactly the same problem, only noticed it when we changed the rad for one that wasn't half blocked!!! Turned out someone had removed the thermostat to mask the overheating problems caused by the rad:(

Dead easy to change on a V8, 2 bolts to undo on the inlet manifold, new stat and gasket and ther you go. We went for an 82°C stat rather than the standard 88°C one as we are on LPG which apparently runs a bit hotter. Best of luck!
