My crazy diff ratio change idea

The ZF5HP24 is a robust gearbox without any major known issues, and is not the weak point of my system, so I do not care if it is put under slightly more stress.

So once again the hysterical problem that I have been told to worry about does not relate to my specific situation so I am ignoring it.

Hysterical answers that do not relate to my situation are just a waste of my time, yet all but one person here has done that, over and over and over again...
it has several flaws, actually..

shows how little you know about your own vehicle.

There is a hilarious movie called Wayne' World and in that movie there is a scene where the ex-girlfriend of the main character gives him a useless birthday gift and he insult her.

She responds "If you are not careful Wayne you will lose me" even though they are not together and never will be again.

That is what this feels like, people who I never wanted here, who have had nothing of value to add, who were insulting and patronizing for 30 pages, think that them leaving is somehow a victory for them and not for me.

It has several flaws, but no known MAJOR flaws that make it the weak link in my car.

Maybe you want to go and read my comment again and you will see that I never said it doesn't have flaws.

Once again another gotcha question or comment has been proven wrong, yawn.

people were telling you what may go wrong but you dismiss it as not relevant then quote figers which untill its done are but theoretical, i havent even mentioned the centre prop bearing, which i can tell you disintigrates with a manual box due to extra stresses
People didn't tell me what may go wrong, they told me that I was an idiot for even considering the idea because they believed that their ideas were guaranteed to go wrong.

Every time I explained why their ideas would not go wrong, with facts, or I explained why their ideas were not relevant to my situation.

But instead of appreciating my feedback to their ideas they attacked me for daring to question their ideas.

Like every time they told me that the acceleration will not be as fast, and I had to repeatedly explain that I don't care about acceleration and every time they attacked me for this answer.

Or the endless comments about fuel saving.

Or the endless comments about it not going into fifth gear.

Or the endless comments about lugging, although most of them didn't call it that.

Or the endless comments about how Range Rover made a perfect car and no one can ever change it in any way.

Or how they kept telling me that my gearbox will be under more stress, from more torque, while also burning less fuel, but they do not understand that you cannot create more force from less fuel.

Or the endless comments about towing.

A change from an automatic gearbox to a manual gearbox is a significant change that it can put more stress on the prop shaft bearing but I am not making a major change.

I don't know if you had to modify mounting points to put the X3 gearbox in your L322 which could cause problems with the prop shaft bearing, but I am doing nothing like that.

Using 2.76 diffs versus 3.73 diffs is not a significant difference, and it is unlikely to create major stress, unless you can explain the exact reason why that would happen.

A meteorite could hit me on the trip, but no one mentioned it because it is one of those ridiculous risks that is not worth mentioning.

Most of the other things that were mentioned here were also ridiculous.

Someone even told me to buy a different car even though I said in my initial question for people to not waste their time doing that.

They also told me to put an expensive LPG system in my car, change the wheels and tires, change the exhaust system, and remap the engine for more power.

Each time I explained why these ideas were not relevant to my situation and instead of being thanked for explaining this fact, I was attacked for not agreeing with their stupid idea, which also came with a lot of patronizing and condescending comments.

Actually Henry this is the moment where you realize that you were wrong and you man up and admit that you were wrong.

I said "The ZF5HP24 is a robust gearbox without any MAJOR known issues, and is not the WEAK POINT of my system, so I do not care if it is put under slightly more stress."

Unless you can name several major problems that would make my ZF5HP the weak point of my system I suggest that you reattach your testicles and admit that you were wrong.

now you have looked at what happens in top gear have a look at what happens when you raise the ratio when in first and go from a standing start
I have looked at this and this has been discussed multiple times already on this forum and on another, but to save you looking for it the summary is that it is not a problem.

It is not a problem because I am not towing, I am not loading the car up with 5 people and their gear, and I am not regularly moving off from a standstill up steep hills.

In the worst case scenario if I need to start driving from standstill up a steep hill, I can select the low range in my transfer case for that rare situation, and then put it back into normal range after 10 seconds.

Just so you understand, your question implies that I am about as dumb as a human being could possibly be.

To not consider what would happen in first gear with this differential change, that would be really dumb.

You didn't ask me if I had considered it, you told me to consider it with the implication that you were giving me new information that I had not considered.

It is this kind of patronizing arrogant comment that I really don't appreciate.

Ask someone if they know something, do not assume that they do not know it, otherwise you are just being arrogant.

Also if you actually looked at this thread you would see that I had already considered almost everything that was suggested to me, making it clear that I am not an idiot and I have thought this through.

I got the ABS speedo answer from RRPhil on another forum before you commented.

I got the answer to my initial question within a few days (from this forum and another), being that there is no obvious reason why it will definitely not work, and the other differential is most likely going to fit.

I never asked if it would definitely work, I asked if it was a crazy idea, meaning if it would definitely not work, but you probably don't understand the difference.
I gave you the speedo info which you acknowledged.

You can change from low range to highwhilst moving fast enough to make a difference?

Q) If you do go ahead, will it be done on garage ramps, or a driveway ? Just curious.
I have already mentioned that I work on my car in the street outside my house.

That is one of the reasons why I do not want to do the change if it is unlikely to work.

So now that you have this information please prepare another gotcha question for me so that the insanity can continue.

The insults come thick and fast

Yes but I already got it somewhere else first so I did not need your answer.

But let's assume that you and blob are the two people who gave me information here, then it is probably 300 comments of insults and useless advice and two good comments.

I don't know anyone who has a win to lose ratio of 2/300 that thinks they are worthwhile.

But let us look a little bit deeper, Blob only confirmed something that I already suspected from looking at photographs online.

If the speedometer was affected it wouldn't have bothered me anyway which I mentioned in my initial question.

So neither of you actually helped me to any great degree with the underlining question.

But hey I will give you the credit for 2/300.

Yes I know that because you said it before, but it was a simple question given the amount of work involved. No "gotcha" content included.
