today I dug out the big folder of receipts etc that came with it when I bought it and it's made me curious of its value.

Can anyone give me their best opinion?

Details are;

1986 Blue Land Rover 90 pick up
High comp v8 on carbs (refurb engine fitting in 94, originally diesel)
Returned 4 speed lt95 and overdrive (also fitted in 94)
103k miles
New rear cross member and a few patches
Bulkhead had new pillars, vent surrounds and footwells - all solid now
5 owners from new - loads of receipts including for engine, gearbox and overdrive
Almost everything is original except for engine and gearbox.
Also has newer modular wheels with brand new tyres
New aftermarket lights all around - standard replacements.
Was originally green but painted blue now, including interior and under bonnet etc, would say paint job is decent.
Almost ready for its MOT but for should pass so let's just say 12 months MOT too.

Thanks in advanced!

I wouldn't give a 'value' without seeing at least pictures, especially of the outriggers, axles, undersides etc. Bodywork and such don't really bother me much .. :) Others will have a very different view.

From your description I'd say I've got £80 just sat waiting ....

My '89 19j cost £<2000 .. OK, it needed work, and still does, but I wouldn't pay much more for an older vehicle.

Chassis is solid now. Patched a few holes. Out riggers are sound.

Attempting to add some picture now

This was a few weeks ago before I fitted the new cross member, you crab just make out it's missing.

For comparison this is what it was like last year when I bought it

That paint Jo wont add value, its done pretty roughly with lots of overspray on the sills and fading on hinges.

If x member has failed it wont be to long and chassis will start needing some work.

Judging by those couple of picks id say 2-2.5 k, someone will want the V8 as a plaything (me), its a blank canvas for a running project really.

Good spot on the paint work, it isn't finished yet. The check plate along the bottom will be replaced at some point, same with the door hinges and wing mirrors haven't been touched.

In terms on the chassis though it's surprisingly solid, it was just the rear that was knackered.

Anyway I'd be happy with £2.5k, ive spent less than that doing it up.

As @Gottschalk said .. more relevant pictures, as I said, "especially of the outriggers, axles, undersides" are a much better showpiece for what it's worth.

What do you think it's worth, or what do you want for it?

I'll have to take some more when I get a chance.

In terms of what I think it's worth I'm not really sure. In total I've spent £3k on it this year and that includes all the new tools I've bought including welder/ compressors/ decent socket set etc. So once I'd finished with cleaning up and painting I'd be happy with around £3k.

Although I'm keeping it!!!

If you advertise it for 2.5k you will be inundated with calls as its to cheap!
Well worth going for agreed value on the insurance of at least 4.5k.

£4.5?!? Didn't think it would be worth anywhere near that!!

I don't know what to do actually. On the one hand I could just keep doing small improvements so that I can make my money back in the future and get a younger 90. Or, I can commit and decide to keep it for ever and just keep spending. New chassis in a few years etc.

If you are happy to run a V8 and the bulkhead is as good as you say I'd be inclined to keep it and put a new chassis under it in a few years.
I quite like the look of it and a bit of tidying and tinkering will make it very smart.
I would expect it to be worth £3.5k to £4K as is so long as the chassis is properly solid with tidy repairs that are protected but not hidden.

It might be worth that where you are, or more down south. You might keep the chassis going for years with plating, paint and Dinitrol. Chassis pics would help.

I doubt if it is worth selling, if you buy another it will either be cheap and rough, or dear and done up already. Sometimes better the devil you know, unless you are desperate for another project.

Its not so much what its worth but what it would costs to replace like for like and some people idea of good chassis is not others etc.

Thats my worry, my thought was this one has a maximum value of a few grand as its old, not factory fitted v8 etc etc. So if i sold it for £3k ish and bought either something like a td5 or new and worked on that or something like an origional factory fitted v8 county station wagon, and have a long term project on vehicle that is worth the investment. Or i can just keep working on this and make it awesome and just enjoy having it and driving it.

Thanks, i think looks wise its turned out OK. Still need to respray around the cab window, and do little bits. But as i said all the major work is done, its now just a case of small improvements, and upgrades.
