Hi All

My Vehicle is a 1993 90 Ex Mod fitted with a 200tdi (Not Disco)

About 3 weeks ago I had to have a complete new clutch fitted as the existing one had the centre pulled out of it because it was missing a large number of the bolts that were supposed to be holding the gear box together (Only 2 left in situ)

Following the new clutch everything has been great and the clutch has been a hell of a lot lighter – Result J

However late last week It’s started making an intermittent whining noise that initially sounded belt related, but having checked the PAS & Alt. belts this does not appear to be the issue. The noise is only there when vehicle is being driven and stops if you dip the clutch and is not there at all on start up or even when you rev. the engine hard when stationary.

The Alternator is new so don’t think it’s that, beginning to wonder if it’s the Pulley for the power steering

Anyone have idea's or thoughts

So you think it's the belts? Belts that have worn thin can squeal some even when tight. Power steering whine is often air in the system, check for frothing in the reservoir.

Many years ago I had a whining noise from my SerIII. Turned out to be cracks in a new clutch plate. The whine would happen when putting the clutch down and you could almost play a tune by jiggling the pedal......

try running for a minute with belt off to prove it isent altinator powerstering pump or waterpump sounds more like transmission problems
