Up **** creek.
Hi fellas just thought i'd share this with you. Coming home from work the other day i decided to take a trip down memory lane and re visit some of the old forrestry roads me and my friends used to "rally" on when we 1st passed our tests many moons ago,

i took the disco way up the mountain and totally lost phone signal, i was actually really enjoying myself and decided to see what this car can really do, aware that I was on my own and phoneless i decided to be carefull not to get stuck - at 1st! well bloody hell what a machine! within 5 minutes i was up to the sills in thick mud and loving every second of it! i was going up "roads" i would never dream of in any of my old cars - "roads" carved into the mountainside by diggers and dumpers etc not designed to be used by anything short of a catterpillar track.

I stalled twice in thick mud but thought nothing of it. I continued my fun and was amazed at the angles i could go up/down slopes convinced i would soon hear the crunching of the bumper on the groung but no the disco took it all with amazing ease - i didnt even have to engage the diff lock once!, well 2 hours late from work i decided i had better head back home as my missus was actually waiting for me so she could go out. i joined the tarmac mountain road again and started my descent, i got about half way down and decided to pull in to a layby to inspect the motor before getting it back onto the public road.

as i looked underneath i saw a large branch sticking out of the engine bay coming out near the axle, I tried pulling it out from underneath but it was jammed in solid. i opened the bonnet to get a better look and would you believe it the branch reached all the way from the axle to next to the passenger headlight! about 4 feet! must have been pushed in when i was reversing at some point judging by the angle of it. i couldnt remove it and so decided to drive home and then get it out as it didnt appear to be causing any harm where it was.

I got in and nothing - the car wouldnt start - panic started to kick in and rather than try to solve the problem like i usually would i decided to try to bump the car, pushing a 2 and 3/4 ton truck on your own with no power steering is no fun i can assure you , and of all the places to pull in on a bloody mountain i had chose the only flat place you could find! well it bumped straight away and i got home to an ear bashing from the ball and chain for being over 2 hours late. I removed the branch (the dog loved it) and found it had knocked 1 of the spade connectors loose on the ignition coil, problem sorted.

But ive been thinking imagine if it hadnt started when it stalled those 2 times in the thick mud:eek: i would have been buggered! well lesson learnt i'm not going again on my own in case something dodgy happens. i only did this time out of spontanuity but definately lesson well learned.

Dont really know where im going with this except to say i've been bitten now by the 4x4 bug and will def be visiting mud again in the very near future, however i'll be a lot more sensible the next time. but i tell you something, what a bloody day :D

Mr Nice,
one up for sponteniety, but getting stuck can cost you - a farmer charged me to pull out my old series 3 some years ago.
if you're stuck for a partner, I'm only in Welshpool so maybe a days outing could be arranged.
