I will burn it before I go to the lengths you two did. From what I’ve read lately I should be okay. only need to keep it going until 2030 then it’s banned here :(
Already impossible for my wife to use the P38 to visit her son in Paris, it's banned:mad:
Even if I had the money, I would not be buying one of the mobile Playstations that they sell now that nobody can fix when they go wrong.

I heard it was less likely to feck the rings up ...
I seriously doubt there is any difference, only a whiff of vapour is needed which should not cause a problem. Pour loads in and any fluid that can wash the oil off the cylinder bore will do harm.
Back in the distant days of my youth, my neighbour was a London Cabbie, he regularly knocked on my door in winter when his taxi wouldn't start, a flit spray with Ether in it always did the job:)

so...... bit of an update.

we removed the passenger seat, carpet around footwell and it was soaking with water. All electrics under seat have been effected i think. BCM was pretty much submerged. lots or green on the connections. we drained and cleaned the connectors but no joy.
i have a 2nd had BCM on the way.

Did say here we go when you mentioned wet carpet and as another member said not a stab in the dark..you will have to either push all pins out of connectors and clean or cut and solder them all but sometimes the verdegree goes further up the cable...you have found the problem though hope the solution follows....good luck...

i really hope you are right!!!

does the secondhand BCM have to be coded to the vehicle?

The P38 we did last was sent to us from another garage so they and the owner sent it to the UK...I think but not sure BCM holds things like milage etc we got it back with another dash binnical but I remember we had to send fob with BCM...

We didnt fit new binnicle as the BCM wasnt the problem...thing was we didnt realise when we were on the phone to callrova from here in Portugal we both twigged it's the same BCM we were talking about...the garage here who sent the car said it had all been checked out here by qualified techs...yeh dont use English Mechanic in the Algarve he is useless farms out work unfortunatly to us and Barry used to work for him so caught him ought..lol

Wow, fabulous thread, this is what makes this site so invaluable.
Good luck OP in your repair quest, hope you get it sorted. I have 2003 Td6, with many minor issues (minor for now at least lol) but she is a wonderful motor vehicle, and I feel like a king when out and about. Far far away, the best car I've ever owned and a real privilege to be the custodian.
Well done to all the contributors to this thread also, you are a collective encyclopedia of all things RR.
I will get back to my lurking now, cheers all.
Mark
