I have the stock defender year 2013 wheels 16" and now would like to go for MT tires, have 2 options for my self, see if anyone could give me an advice, thanks alot.

Option 1: Directly go for BFGoodRich 265/75/R16 MT with stock 16" rims.

Option 2: Kahn Design Mondial 9x20 with 275/55/R20 MT BFGoodRich.

Usage of my defender 110: 90% street, 10% off road (not very hardcore) :)
My preference: Outlook, so I am very struggle the 20", but worry lack of climbing ability.

Thanks

Felix

If you don't use it off road much then buy some all terrains like bf at2, as for size that's a personal choice I would leave it in 16's but that's me

My opinion is stick with the current wheels and get something like the BFG AT like warrior said ^^

Don't put 20" wheels on a defender, it will look rubbish :D

So the AT and MT won't have much different in general hill terrain? I thought once I have changed with MT, I can climb bigger rocks and higher angles :)

As I experienced the spinning (stock tires) but seeing friends' car (MT) going up easily with same driving style.

If only change tires, I can choose:

1) 255/85/R16 AT BFG
2) 265/75/R16 MT BFG

Thanks

Felix

255/85 r16 will give more ground clearance, and slightly higher gearing , MT will give better off road grip , but more noise on road , slightly less on road wet grip. 20" rims would give a harsher ride less tyre choice , more risk of rim damage off road , and negative "cred " HTSH

I have special tracks on mine, it's an off road toy and yes they do offer more grip in thick mud,

BUT, there are noisy, don't grip will in the wet on the road and wear faster on Tarmac, I use mine 95% off road if I used it every day I would and as much off road as I do now I would buy mud terrains, if I dint often go off roading I would buy an all terrain tyre,

Lots of things have factors on off road traction,
different wheel base?
Different tyre pressure?
Different weights or loads in the cars?
1st up a route? Or last?
Disco td5 with Tc?
Center diff lock not working or engaged?
Different suspension springs or dampers?

The list goes on
