Hi All,

I can't start my D2 anymore :-D ..
Let me give you all some history before ;).

I bought the disco approx 3 months ago and has 233k kms.
After a couple weeks i had the M+S lights flashing and went into limp mode for a second.. it went away so i didn't really give it anymore thought. 2 weeks ago after a little 'offroad' driving they went back on and there is no more shifting. Think its stuck in 2nd or 3th.
Took of the XYZ, cleaned it (had a little spot on 1 place, think the common one). I've put it back on and after some fiddling got it alligned again so all the lights and digits on the dash are corresponding. But still MS flashing lights so i went on and started checking te wiring loom. Well it has a VERY bad spot on the known place, where it passes trough the bracket on top and it just gets rubbed. Well 1 wire is just 100% cut. So yesterday i fitted a new wiring loom. Took out the entire mid console unplugged EVERYTHING in there (wich is totally unnecessary cause you can just acces it by taking the window button panel out). So after i plugged everything back in i was so excited to see the flashing go away!
I put the key in, put in pos II aaanndd the lights are still flashing (i'm like ok maybe i need to start the engine to make them go away) so i turn the key and .... nothing happens! No starter cranking, the radio shuts off and the clock light dims when i turn the key. after a few seconds the radio comes back on. but still no cranking. The keyfob still works, i can lock and unlock the car, the red light flashes as it always did when locking and unlocking.

The battery has 12.36v when no load and falls to 12.00v when turning the key (should be plenty i think).
Triple checked all the plugs and made sure they all said 'CLICK' wich they do.

Any ideas on what to check and where i can check it?

(probably been discussed before so pointing me in a direction is also fine ;) )

Thanks all in advance!

As long as you can unlock with the fob and it reacts to it it's not immobilised, make sure it's not in gear, remove relay R2 and bridge the perpendicular cavities in the fusebox with a piece of wire, it should crank then, if it doesnt check the spade connector on the starter solenoid to be well fixed... BTW can you see the P or N symbols on the odometer when these are selected?

As SF says the most likely cause for it not starting is that the EAT now thinks it is in gear and is preventing the start. Maybe you have misaligned the xyz switch somehow.
Why you had M&S lights in the first place is another question entirely and may well have nothing to do with the xyz switch. RAVE lists about 30 possible fault codes for the EAT and about half of them will bring on the M&S lights. You need to get a proper diagnostic check to read the code and find out what the fault actually is. It could be as simple as a loose battery terminal. As I suspect you have found, taking something apart on the assumption that it is the cause of a problem often just generates a new problem. Your cheapest effective diagnostic tool for a TD5 is probably the Foxwell NT530 with the Jaguar Land Rover software (around £140).

Hi Guys!

First of all, thanks for the replies ;).

Yesterday when i came home, first thing i did was get in the disco, and started playing around with the shifter. I had the XYZ off cause i thought that was the problem with the MS lights, wich it wasnt. I thought i alligned it good cause the dash display and the lights came on correctly when moving the shifter.. apperently it can be misalligned then even when displaying the correct digits and light on the console.
So yesterday i started playing around with shifter, cant start in P and cant start in N, now when i hold the shifter between R and N it STARTS! So i think i need to turn the XYZ a bit or something cause the position isnt 100% but the dash digits are correct. So yeah, i know what to do when i have time. The loom was my problem since 2 of the wires in there were cut cause of scuffing. When it started yesterday the lights went out as well ;)

Any tips on how to make it easier to allign the switch are welcome!

UPDATE!

All is in perfect working order again! Realigned the XYZ switch the correct way! putting it in neutral and lining up de hole (ment for special tool) with the flat sides of the bolt (? if that makes sense :p ).
Doing it alone takes crawling under the car and in the car a few times but its not that hard, a little patience and some common sense! ;)

Thx!
