Just got another years MOT sorted, and this came back on the advisory:-

'Movement in upper steering column'

When I enquired about it, they guy that was left at the place wasn't actually sure (I do trust the garage by the way - they are a good Land Rover place ;)).

So my question is, I know my track rod ends etc, are all good, as just greased them all up ready for the MOT and checked everything underneath whilst I was there - is there something from the steering wheel to the steering box that needs tightening, or bush that needs to be replaced, as I thought you just take out slack by adjusting the steering box?

I know its no sports car, but didn't think the steering was actually too bad, from driving other discos

Depends what the movement is. Lock to lock free play maybe badly adjusted steering box or play in connecting shaft joints. Or a combination of both. I am sure tester would have found any play in TREs. You do sometimes depending on steering angle have lock to lock free play with engine switched off. This should go away or reduce considerably when engine is started on this type of setup.

How much movement ?

I would go for the tie bar shown here.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I have put a call to the tester to see what his comments are, but thought I would ask on here in the meantime to see if anyone was familiar with this, as couldn't see much when I searched.

ER1C - I cannot increase the size of your pic, so cannot see where the 'tie bar' is? I didn't think there was a lot of movement if any to be honest, as always kept onto of the steering joints, box etc......
