Mountney Boss on 2006 Defender 110 TD5

Hi. This is my first posting and I'm looking for help! I recently bought a 2006 Defender 110 Td5 Lhd (I live in Spain) and wanted a smaller steering wheel as I am 6'5". So, having looked around I bought a 34cm Mountney wheel and Mountney boss from Rimmers. I checked the VIN and the boss is the correct one - 36 splines. But, there is no way to sort out the self cancelling for the indicators. I'm mechanically minded but am not a mechanic, so I took the Landy and the wheel and boss to our local mechanic. The split ring with two pins that came of the back of the original "air bag type" steering wheel is way smaller than the back of the boss - it's a KK807X boss. The mechanic tried to fix it by really tightening up the steering wheel against the original piece but this only resulted in a nasty steering wheel suqeak and occasionaly functioning indicator cancel. What's the solution? I can see no way of getting the boss and the original piece to work together. I'm obviously missing something obvious....Or maybe the KK807X wont cancel the indicators?

I have a mountney boss on my 1999 TD5 and also had one on my previous landy (a 1997 300tdi 110) and the self cancelers both aligned fine.
