just got a britpart 8000lbs winch to fit on to my series 3 swb.
the question is how?. i would like to fit it in the space between the radiator and bumper but i can't seem to find anyone that sells a mounting plate, i know they do them cos i saw one for sale on ebay the other week but unfortunatly someone beat me to it.
any adive would be most welcome
cheers.

suppose i could,i was just looking for the lazy option.
i'll have a word with the father in law,he seems to be pretty handy at metalwork,he's building a kit car from scratch but then again he's been doing that for the last 20 years and its still not finished. mmmmmmm!

I'm trying to make one up at the moment, only at cardboard template stage so may take a while!!

If you make your own just take a note on the DB8000 gear selection lever. It is designed for a descreate mount where by the change lever is on top only if you mount it so that the base of the winch faces the direction of the fairlead.

The fairlead bolts would go through the fair lead, then a fixed plate with ('letterbox' for the cable)ant then straight into the base of the winch (into two of the four mount holes).

If you make up a standard plate to go at the front void of a series then the normall an best way is to mount the winch base down so that the four mounting holes are against a base plate and the gear lever is forward.

It is important at this stage to make sure you have enough space for the gear lever in it's full travel.

I'll let you know how I get on!!!

cheers for the advice.think the best thing i can do is wait till the winch is delivered on monday, offer it up to the landy, then i'll have a better idea whats what.

yippee! after lots of searching i've found one. a universal winch mounting plate with a bit to bolt the fairlead onto for the barain price of £20 plus p+p. got it from winch solutions, the only thing is that it is designed for a defender but they said all you have to do is trim a bit off the end so it fits between the wings.
sorted!

when you say gear lever do you mean the small silver lever located on the top of the clutch housing as on the britpart db12000i and db9500i.?
if so i have the db8000 which does not have this lever.(check out photos on paddocks advert in lro)

On the DB800 there is a plastic ring going right around the housing with a tab on the front of the winch to switch between freespool and enguaged. For this reason you need to make sure you have anough room for it. The lever for the DB12000i and DB9500i is on top of the winch and is of no problem when mounting.

Have a look at the pics, on the DB8000 you will see the tab on the front.
On the other pic there is a DB9500 but you will also see that the DB8000 will not fit due to the space between the winch and fairleed mounting plate on the front of the bumper.

got a mounting plate for £20 from winch solutions. its for a defender so i had to cut a bit off each end so it fit between the wings.as for the the clutch release lever it does not foul the mount which is a result..

Well, I recently fitted a Winch to the front of my Series III, all it took was 30 minutes and £7 worth of 5mm steel.

Just went down to a local trailer builder bought a sheet of 32"x7" 5mm steel for just under £7, went home drilled 4 holes to fit the bolts which hold on the bumper, drilled another four to hold the winch (two of these went through the bumper at the front to hold it on). Winch bolted on and then cut two pieces of angle iron drilled three holes in each (two for bolts through bumper and one for the fairlead, on both).

As I said 1/2 hour to complete the job and no more than £10 spent. Only problem is that I may have to trim the little panel that sits below the radiator grill to fit it back on, but that shouldn't take too much, all of 30 seconds with a grinder :D.
