MoT ?

I have just returned to Series ownership following a long absence without a usable Series.
My recently acquired steed is eligible for MoT exemption. At some point I will probably put it in for a test. Meanwhile do I have to register it as exempt or is it automatic ?
I taxed it online and MoT was not mentioned.

I believe as long as it says historic vehicle on your V5 then it's both mot and tax exempt. Mine came up when I taxed it online last week just to confirm that it was also exempt from mot but it's been off the road since '97

I think thats right but you may have to declare mot exemtion the first time you do it, thereafter it automatically comes up with the tax. Must say historic on the v5 though.
As an aside is the DVLA open for postal business yet?

No idea I thought they'd be mostly online anyway

The only thing that I saw on DVLA was an invite to download V112(g) for MoT exemption when taxing at a Post Office.
Which doesn't make sense to me. As if it is MoT exempt, it is I believe automatically Tax exempt ?

They are but I need to register my ex-mil 109 for the first time. got to be done by post.

When I did mine a few years ago I had to fill in that form and take it with the tax form to the post office for them to send off together.

It's probably just that all their forms are generic. Depending on what modifications have been made to a vehicle it's possible to be over 40 years old but not mot exempt

I just have the new buyer slip, which does say historic.
The seller updated ownership online.
My son applied for first Driving Licence back in March and we had nothing back yet, so guess they not open for postal business ?

You can see if its exempted if you go to DVLA website and look for mot history and vehicle check, it'll tell you either its mot'd or not , or it will say no results found in which case its probably been exempted already.

I did actually go Post Office with V10 for their publicised opening at 8:30, waited til 9 then told they could not do at this time ?
So back home and just applied for Tax online.

Maybe because swansea is still shut.

Friend of mine got a letter today from dvla relating to v5 change that was required, so they aren't completely shut. Certainly slow

Well MoT comes back as No Results and Tax is showing as untaxed. Yet I have confirmation Email saying it is taxed.
So much for automated system ?

There's 2 different gov pages to check tax MOT. They don't always tally

Think I may ask my local MoT station what happens if I put it through and it fails.
Does it then show up as a fail or exempt.

i would say a fail is a fail, regardless whether its required.
if you don't take it for MOT and its found to be defective in a roadside check, then you're still in troubles, just as you would be if you'd just bought a brand new car a week ago and failed a roadside check

They can't put it through as the MOT system is on-line and won't allow an input of your vehicle. You may be able to pay for an "inspection" but others have found that an MOT station will not be happy doing this as their liability if it fails is unclear and they may not be covered if they fiand a fault and let you leave. If you want a inspetion I think its probably better to go to a Series expert that does not do MOTs, then you can agree what you like.

I was under the impression you could submit your vehicle for voluntary MOT, that was certainly the case last year but may have changed

I took mine a year or 2 back to a local garage who did the test but just not through the system, I think you will find places to do that but probably not all.
