problem with the rust is one you find the hole, two you pick it, it turns into a crater the size of the car :/ ive you have time an some spare pennies laying around an you love your landy, have it sorted :) but seriously look around for a good well priced bloke who will do the work, also how are your inner wheel arches?? its not structural obviously but if the mot man canl bash a screwdriver throo it an also mark that down too :) try temp fixing things like that with fiberglass mesh an webbing?? spray it over then get a proper fix later if money abit tight?? go for the main structural repairs to see you throo th mot :)

He won't wear that for the rear wheel arches as the seatbelts are bolted to them.

you're probably right about his post whoring to get his count up He's a cuunt for it.. . But in this case he's right. It's a fail.

As well as the body mounts been rotten (they do hold the bodyshell to the chassis) Sills are gone rear cross member is gone. Chances are the rear floor will be gone and if it's a 5 door wheel arches are probably knackered as well. Yes all is weldable but the cost if you have to get some one else to do it for you, is going to be a fook of a lot more than The £300/£350 that the vehicle is worth. And thats before he fails it on ball joints, corroded brakelines, worn bushes etc etc

Scrap the fooker and sell all the bits on ebay you'll make £500 if you sell everything. and buy a newer model. £500 will get you an M or P reg disco on ebay. ;)

Oh and the rear door not unlocking is a worn spring.

what about the front door!!

the archers are all ok and the car is mechanically sound, ball joints are all ok and the brake lines are all ok, mechanical side of things are great just this mount, and where are these sills?? if you mean under the doors running rear the front, there fine no rust at all!! im guessing the rear cross member is the boot bit? the place me tank guard fits to??

ive got a mate that can weld but whether he could do this job for me is another thing, i can bodge some of the lesser rust areas easy, the garage i take it too know it just does offroading so hes a little lean on the lesser of the rust, but main structural stuff needs sorting.

ok mate, ill let you know when i sort my drivers door for the magic cure :D lol, hope i helped a little, im off dogs need walking :(:( world needs saving etc etc.. le t me know if u fix the door :)

well i think the arches are looking good!! boot floor maybe not so bad,

but not as bad as the thread you posted redhand

no offence but i find it hard to believe that the rear end/body mounts are that bad but your sills and front inner wings are ok? have you poked them to make sure there's still some metal there, or are you just trusting in the black underseal to hold everythin together??

personally i wouldnt waste time/effort/money repairing that, an car body repair is my trade!! as Redhand said - flog the bits and buy summat decent using the money you make on parts. if you get it through this MOT then you'll be lucky, but you'll be faced with exactly the same problem next year so its a false economy.

as for bodging the repairs - be VERY glad i aint the MOT tester, or the guy who gotta pull ya motor out a ditch when ya bodge comes apart at a VERY inconvenient moment.

well from underneath they are fine, poked around alot, front inner wings are fine, i can get more pics up of them, ill take the black sills off tomorrow or weekend see whats under but pretty sure they are ok, i wouldnt bodge bad stuff, structural stuff/ dangerous rust ill get done properly, but arch liners etc ill proper cover up with sheets and rivet them on then hammerite over top

lookin at the pics you just put up - new boot floor, 1 of the arches deffo needs doing as its rusted close to the seatbelt mount, and if 1 is gone the other is going.

i'd DEFFO be scrapping it unless you got a supply of metal and can weld yaself an have got a week or 2 of time to sort it out proper. by time you've got the repair panels an paid someone to cut out the grot an re-weld the plates its gonna cost more than the cars worth

boot floor not so bad, but still need replacing for mot.

you can get a new one for about 60quid... just takes time taking the old one out and welding the new one in...

mine needs a new rear x member and some patching done on the drivers floor and sills.. not too bad.
but MOT is only march 2010

finally someone positive!! new boot floor it will be then!!

rear seats can fook off dont need em, dont need seatbelt, sorted that issue out arches can wait.

i got plenty of time just means cant play in the mud for a bit!!

as for the rear with the mounts, ill just replace the x member, MPS 4x4 Store Catalogue

£110, x member
£60 floor

£170 for parts, im happy to cut old stuff out change the x member, mate can weld floor in for us!! sorted

i really dont think the rust is that bad to scrap it yet!!!

just hope stevie wonder doing the mot

Or Cracko Jako (Michael Jackson)

For the type of cash you looking to pay to get it done your better looking for one on ebay where it needs something big that is good on yours but makes theirs worthless like an engine or box axel etc.

Then swop them over jobs a good one! You dont have to ride a death trap rot box and you save cash when you sell the remainder of the car. Also you manage to get all the niggley bits working on the one you keep.

Or find a dodgey MOT centre! And take out accidental death insurance for when the body comes off the rockers on the M1!

I love your optimism mate but that disco is a scrapper. You could do all that work and even with a new MOT it's only worth 500quid. I've broken four discos this year that had failed their MOT on rust and none of them were as bad as yours.

it may be bad but if you make a good job of the welding repairs and its mechanically sound then at least you'll end up with a truck thats a know quantity, not someones elses problem that they have decided to move on. come on,lets try and encourage the dude, i get asked to repair such things every week, i've done it on my own truck too and done right, it'll last him, buy someone elses and in a couple of years (if that) his £500 ebay disco he buys could, sorry WILL, be as bad

cheers, its not like its my bloody day to day car or something it get used for off roading,

what do you lot do when someone find a nice old series 1 that mostly are rust and rebuild them. . some of you must have a heart attack!!

if i spend 200-300 fixing this its worth it, i dont care how much its worth!! its only a floor and re x member!! and possible a bit of work on the arches!!

some of you on here are so bloody morbid!! cheer up and get a bit of enthusiasm in you!! its not the end of the world!!!

I also challenge a all you scared of a bit of work and rust to find me a decent good conditioned 300TDI £500

Series 1's are worth saving, it wil cost you more than a grand to have it welded properly, I hate to say it being an optimist myself but they are right. good luck .
