Mot questions

Any advice needed ,i am a tester will try and help

yeah can i get them by post lol. seriosly i got a 95 cherokee mot up soon, had few advisorys last year, one was oil leak. can it fail for an oil leak? im not worried by it, more curious? it prob fail on something else, so long as can make it pass cheeply, as going sell it when get the reg no transfered

No an oil leak is only a non component related advisory which a. Is the personal opinion of the individual tester and b. Not a testable item ...if it is spewing so much oil that it is likely to cause injury to the tester or damage to the vehicle or equipment used to test it then you can refuse to test hope this helps

thanks, is said bad oil leak, but found the oil filter was pinholed, and there a weap from rocker cover. changed the filter, but never got round to doing the rocker gasket, can see it a bit cracked. might try get some of the old oil washed off the engine before the test. just to get one less advisory befor i sell the old boy

You know when you start the test and the computer gives you a drop down list of make, model, trim, and engine ..... what are you supposed to do if the engine isn't on the list? (eg an engine conversion, or the list has inaccuracies)?

if the bottom edge of a shock abzorber is corroded (not a working part of it ) but the abzorber itself dont leak oil and is mechanicaly fine is it classed as a fail or advisory

same thing with the last 1" of the exhaust tailpipe can i just cut the rusty bit off and tart it up for a pass

if you cant narrow it down due to lack of choices then you must abort vsi search dont ever guess at stuff it will come back and bite u in the ass as you are creating a new vehicle record when you choose one specific model from list if it has a different engine dont worry the only thing you have to confirm is petrol ordeisel its not up to you to check engine number if engine has been changed customer must inform dvla at which point they will need a covering headed letter from a garage conirming that this has been done (not necessarily by that garage ) and dvla may ask them to go to a vosa approved testing atation for a vic check (vehicle identity) depending on the circumstances ..changed my series3 from diesel to petrol so know the procedure

can only advise as (casing slightly corroded) failable only on negligable damping affect/ major leak or security... And yes as long as exhaust system"adequately" supported it is ok

cheers matey ill get onto it this weekend as they do look a little unsightly is it also possible to replace the rubber bushes on the shocks with nylon ones and still pass

yes rubber or poly all good make um out of wood if you like if there aint no play and its not insecure or seized i cant fail it weird as that seems !!

Why do Disco's fail on rusty sills when My Isuzu passed with rotten sills as it has (like a Disco) a chassis

the only way a rusty sill should fail on a disco is if the corrosion is within 30cm of a prescribed area i.e seat belt mount , seat mount ,steering component or suspension component etc or within 30 cm of a body mount but as regards these the rot has to be bad enough so that displacement of the body is likely to occur i.e its gotta be fuc*ed a lot of testers fail this where it shouldnt be a fail as far as i can make out

My 110 failed because I had replaced the off side floor section with a plastic laminate instead of aluminium and also failed because I had reinforced a corroded seat box floor with Glassfibre.
Reasons given were close proximity of seat belt mounts...I took it somewhere else and it passed.

scary its a wild west of tests out there i try to be reasonable but point out to people that moan its your life and the life of the 10 people you kill when you mount the pavement cause of a component failure that is in my hands so if it aint safe dont pass it its all quite clear cut in the manual MOT testing manuals and guides

see what you can find in here there isnt any room for error really providing you follow the correct test methods

got a p38 just takes so bleeding long for dvla to transfer my reg number from jeep.
