MOT Failure????

Hi, im after a few opinions or peoples knowledge please. I sent my defender 90 for its mot today and they have gave me a failure sheet due the drivers seat not sliding back an fourth.:violin:

I was wondering if this is a mot failure or not. I can see why it would be if it had the mechanism to slide but didn't, because if that was not working there would be a fault and you could class that as unsafe.

Mine on the other hand are cobra bucket seats with a solid subframe all made from good strong box section and bolted through the floor were the oringinal seat bolted with big bolts.

I know its been through previous mot's with this and i only took it to this garage as they are land rover specialists and i know there not standard but when i questioned they was not to sure if it was a failure or not themself :confused: any knowledge would be good otherwise im gunna need to buy some new seats which i dont think the wife would be to pleased about after i jus had to get the timing done 3 days ago

thanks for your quick reply lol i thought they were a proper garage! i take many of my vans there and all my familys cars get done there and then i got that as a fail i must admit i was rather annoyed myself hence why i questioned it
 
surley vehicles that have had this fitted prior to the stupid rule coming in must be exempt in some was as this would cost thousands of people money accross the country:eek:
 
If summit is not there it can't be tested. Many cars didn't have wing mirrors a way back and having one on the passenger side was sometimes an optional extra. As long as the seat is fit for purpose it should pass. If the seat has a mechanism it is not a requirement that it works/locks in all positions. Just that it can lock in place
 
new rules say
"Seats
The driver's seat must be able to be secured fore and aft in two or three different positions. Electric motor-driven seats need to move fore and aft."

Although, as Trewey says if it int there, you can't test it.
 
My bucket seats in my track car are bolted to 1" x 1" box which is welded to the chassis and that passes MOT's with no adjustment. HTH

Like Lorri says.

I spoke to my MOTer about an MOT on my 90 when it didn't have some bits on it finished and they said if it's not there we can't test it. I think it was relating to the rear door.
 
just to update the garage admitted to being wrong today its only if it fitted just like we all thought. So well chuffed as jus a loose wheel bearing nut on the mot to do :D
