MOT coming up.... Worried!

As mentioned my '95 Disco is up for it's MOT next month. I bought the vehicle without much history apart from the current MOT. I'm not convinced it flew through last time, and since then the previous owner plated the front arches but pop riveted them which I am told will instantly fail.

Am I being sensible to take it back to the garage that MOT'd it last year? It's only done about 4000 miles in the year and they passed it!!!

Is there anyone ou there that could give it pre MOT once over so I can brace myself for the worst?

You can see all the test results going back to 2005, including advisories, so you know what was beginning to look suspect at the time of the last test.

Really though you need to be pragmatic. It's going to fail, it's just about how much it's going to cost to get it through the re-test.

Yes, I've found that website and it shows as a "pass". Simple as that.
 
Not a lot of use then!

My advice then would be to check the easy stuff like lights, wipers and brake pads, then get underneath and look for holes in the exhaust and fluid leaks from joints, pipes and seals.

Beyond that you're only going to be second guessing the tester and there's no point replacing parts unless you're 100% sure they're going to get you a fail.
 
I looked at the test history since 05. It's only failed once in the past, had plenty of advisories at times but seems to pass and has been tested at different places every time.

Maybe I'm worrying to much!
 
i brought one 2 mnths ago and took it for mot, the bloke filled all the rotten hole with fibre glass and painted every where with bitumen, was well ripped off there. All seemed solid when i looked :-( all the welding work was twice as much as i payed for the car, sold it as spares and repairs and brought another one without bitumen.

yeah its not classed as a structual point as its 30 inches from a mounting point, or somthing along them lines lol. i replaced the o/s/f panel as the headed tank was shaking around.
 
I took mine to the mot garage I use and asked them to give it a once over to find anything needed for next months mot. They charged me £20 and gave me a list of small jobs required. New rear calipers, wheel bearing and anti rollbar bushes and advised on hole in o/s front inner wing.

£20 well spent I think, as now it should pass.
 
I would advise you check for rust as its the main killer of discos start from the front with the inner wings both side are a fail if there are any holes, then check the inner and outher cills for any holes and while your under there the body mounts need to be in good order too, then look under the rear arches for holes as the rear seatbelt mounts are there, then lift the boot carpets and check the floor for rust as the rear seatbelt mounts are here also check the inner wheel arches as they often rust away, then get under the rear of the car and check the rear crossmember and bodymounts for rust, if you have a towbar check all is ok around that too, i took my disco expecting some rust but had to practically rebuild it as it was so bad lol, good luck
 
Only one side mattered on my Disco 1. MOT man said that the passenger side inner had nothing structural on it. Also... surely the brake assy is on the driver' side?
 
yeah i was told the same by my mot man - nsf inner wing dont matter - osf does due to master cylinder being mounted on the bulkhead - ive got a whole right next to the master cylinder - mines currently off the road while i save as he needs shed loads of welding plus more - any other vehicle i would of scrapped ! cant work out the reason its still sat on the drive is it love or pure stupidity lol !
