New gearbox....oh dear!
Spanish phrase book? I thought French and Arabic were the two main languages in Morocco? Or do you mean that will be handy for the drive down?

No there are a few quite a few Spanish parts in Morocco, and they understand no French... wierd that... but yes I probably need a French Phrase Book too, as I may break down in a French bit next time :D

How do chaps!

Update:

Got myself sorted with a GPS map for Morocco from Garmin, got a very good French book called "Gandini" full of campsites, getting a rough root together, but I think that we are going to play it by ear once we get there.

Trying to weigh up which would be the best fridge to get ??? waeco 60 litres or 80 l ?? There are five of us remember !

Anyone know approx how long a fridge will run off it's battery for?

Cheers Jason

depends on the ampage draw. will you be driving every day?

we had ours on constant for 4 weeks in Morocco, 5 weeks in W. Africa and 3 weeks in the alps. longest stop was 2 days.

glad your getting things sorted.

I went for a 60 litres in the end, going to stick another battery on with a split charger, thought about sticking a 20w solar panel as wall-Any thoughts? worth it or not ????

I have a solar panel on the 110 roof rack, well worth it particularly if like me the split charge went wonky, also useful if stopping for a day or so, or you have lots of electrical appliances
Is 60 enough with family - no room for cold beer! - and you will need this for one reason or another

Hi,

GPS; "GPS map for Morocco from Garmin" it'll be interesting to hear of your opinion, I opted against and took the olaf maps on my 60csx I picked some excellent stops/info not on paper maps. However I found both the Michelin 742 and the rough guide version were very good for detail, and the larger scale insight map better for road navigation. Morocco-overland site/book of course as well, great stuff.

Split charge and fridge, excellent ideas, most "proper" fridges shoudn't draw more than 0.5amps per hour, however if the weather's hot and fridge full, it will effect it hugely, I had some days well into the 40's and my engel was struggling to keep it really cold after parking up for much more than an overnight stop (my 2nd battery is an 85AH and in cooler climes it'll run for 3/4 days), think about getting an insulating jacket for it, it'll help not sure how much though. There's enough shops and some very good supermarkets out there, so don't take too much fridged stuff from uk. If needs be just run your engine for a while.

Solar panels are getting better and smaller, I took a cheap maplins one and could attach to either battery, but didn't need to, so not sure how well it would work.

I speak a little Arabic/French/Spanish, but most people spoke English and were happy to practice it.

Enjoy it, it's a beautiful Country, going back myself in October. :)

Cheers, Mark

How mant watts panel do you have ??

Too late! ordered it! The reasoning was that a 80 litres is massive, got a massive lid that lets all the cool bit's out when you open it and is going to use more watts!!!

Normaly make do with 2x20 litres cooler boxs !

Jason - dont know lost instructions but measures 34cms x 140 cms - hope this helps
One life - I have mapsource on computer with olaf and am plotting track and track points for a 20 day spell in western sahara. But was going to purchase dakota 20 but after reading all blurb on it unsure what it will do. Will a 60 csx upload my data olaf track points and all. Does it work on dash without outside antenna - I have a 110 and is there a suitable dash mount. Was thinking about taking computer as backup. Really hope you can help with this

Hi OLDUN,

Yes, yes and yes.

Olaf maps are brilliant, but download without map contours, makes the tracks easier to see and with so much new roads being built, there will be data that is old. No problem without a outside antenna, mine worked very well.

Plenty of dash mounts out there, either the sticky type or suction type.

Yes also took a laptop as back-up, but didn't really need it for navigation.

Cheers, Mark

hi,

No, just a normal laptop in it's bag, not even a peli case. As long as important things are sealed in something, no problem. Still getting the sand out of the vehicle as I had the front flaps open. :)

Cheers, mark

looks a good buy. talking of fluids we found the local bottled water high in chemicals and will give you the squits if you drink a lot, so we stuck to soft drinks/beer/wine. :)

Despite a thorough jet wash where its parked up in shed there is a line of yellow each side of the 110 and over the wheels - and Ive given up inside after having the vents open during two dust storms (idiot me forgot to close them - not that it would have made a lot of difference) thanks for reply onelife thought a normal hard drive would get shaken to pieces

They don't seem to care about CB's anymore, I hid mine, but met some guys who didn't bother and got through fine.

Although fairly pointless if you don't have anyone to talk too, in three weeks we never found anyone else to talk too...
