It may help if I say its a Defender 110 of 1997

I've read a number of threads regarding the fuel and temp. gauges at zero. And thought I'd solved things simply with a new fuse --wrong so far.

A bit of sequence of events, the gauges didnt work , but I didn't immediately change the fuse. Subsequently both indicators failed but I know they work as the hazards work. I set about changing the fuses 5 and 15A. I clearly saw one had a clear break. Finished the change and turned the key without starting the engine, gauges worked and indicators worked (went round to double-check).Satisfied I finished.

Next day, while driving I noticed the guages back a zero and indicators not working.

I haven't noticed any other problems and as yet haven't dabbled further.

Any guidance?

This may not be your fault. But check the main vehicle earth and clean it up and replace if necessary. The amount of grief I had from a poor earth regarding gauges and lights was ridiculous. start with cheapest first

Ha i have just fitted a new + 2" lift kit to mine and since doing this right from driving the 90 out of my garage after fitting it my 90 now turns off at the key where as before i fitted a seperate switch to turn the engine off but my gauges are still a bit iffy though

Follow the negative battery lead and clean up all connections. You may how one to chassis and one to gearbox or transfer box. I cleaned with a wire brush back to bare metal. check and maybe fit an additional earth for engine and try that
