had new clutch fittd to td4 last year. gears were still hard to engage.then had a new master cylinder fitted as old one was leaking worked well for a while.now been told the slave cylinder needs replacing as the gear stick is still quite stiff to select gears.dose the gearbox have to come out for this job.on a td4. thanks.

Yep, that's why it's highly recommended that the slave cylinder is replaced whenever the gearbox is out.

Try bleeding the system.......it could help for a while.

Having some clutch problems myself at the mo mate, and yes according to the info I've been given the clutch on the TD4 is a bastrod when things start to go wrong.

It has a separate Master Cylinder and Slave Cylinder, Master is accessible through the engine compartment, the Slave is housed inside the BellHousing, so it's a gearbox out job I believe :(

I am in the process of replacing the Master Cylinder at the mo, and hoping that fixes the prob and that it's not a box out job as I dont have the time/inclination to do that myself.

Learning all the time about this, but just a quick thought on your prob, has the system been bled? Air in the system can cause your problems.......Not sure about the procedure of bleeding though, as I'm waiting for a replacement master to be delivered so I've not yet attempted the bleeding of the system  Oh joy, good times ahead :)

yes it was rebleed after the clutch was fitted and it made it a bit better for a while the got hard again?

yes the box has to come out for the slave to be done
the slave has just gone on my td4
had to go get it from shops as it went when the wife borrowed it and had to drive it back without a clutch lol
anyway rang landrover up going to cost about 500 so going to do it myself

Where about was that Mate.... I just got first symptoms of same problem. No leaks anywhere. Fluid is full. Clutch doesnt come up of the floor when pressed all the way...(sometimes...3 days now and usually at junctions...).

I live in Cleethorpes and work over in Chester. Anyone know good cheap mech over these areas??

Also need to get rid of spin down noise since i have the EGR blanking mod..
