Does anybody have any experience of the "New! Parabolic suspension Kits" advertised in most landy mags by MM4x4, the kits comes in at £460 for 4 x parabolic springs inc u bolts and 4 x pro comp shocks inc boots. I was planning on speaking to GB springs regarding their prices but am away with work at the minute and havent got round to it, will it be similar. The landy is a 1976 S3 2.25 88', the old ones need replacing desperately and the car will be used mostly for local lanes and the odd pay and play, am i going down the right track for parts ? any help would be greatly appreciated.

I cannot recommend GB Springs highly enough. Ordered them on a Wednesday and they turned up next day. With all the fittings excluding springs. Really well made and take some abuse!

GB generally get the nod on this board. Me I am happy with very well greased standard springs. Took a bit of time to get em supple but now rides well.

Ive now spoken to GB, came close enough to land to get some phone signal, very very helpful and im very impressed reckon ill pop my order in tm, now the big question is which shocks, i know i can look forward to some abuse for this but im tempted by the cheap britpart options, they are so cheap, it would appear they are almost disposable.

I would have stuck with originals but mine are so far from recoverable it just didnt make sense to start greasing/oiling them etc. It scraped through its MOT because of them so i decided best just to get them changed out.

Disposable is the word, I snapped one in a pothole on tarmac

Oh....HA !! maybe not best then, I just dont want to pay too much for something i wont get the best out of, is there a shock between the £10 Britpart and the £30 ProComp

Think the standard combination for use with parabolic springs would generally be accepted as ProComp ES3000 (extra long to allow for additional lift and travel) - it's what I've had on mine for about 3 years now along with GB Springs (cannot reccomend GB Springs quality and service highly enough).... lovely on road and also perform very well on the bit of RTV trialling I've done as well :)

A previous owner fitted Rocky Mountains on mine, got to say they are way more comfy than the standard leaf springs, also she sits quite well on them, in previous series the back end always sagged and it looked uneven etc, but got to say they look the biz ! Can't remenber how much they would cost though (as I didn't buy them n all)

Probably a daft question but, the extra long shocks (PC Es3000), i take it they provide a slight increase in ride height as well as extra articulation. I wouldnt want to increase the ride height as i prefer the standard look and im fairly certain my landy is only just going to fit into my garage with the extra inch the paras will provide.

No the dampers don't provide extra ride height, but compared to ordinary leaf springs you will probably find that the parabolic springs lift the body up from the axles a little bit, that along with a bit more articulation means that to get the most out of it on uneven ground I went for the extra long ES3000 to allow the dampers to extend that extra little bit.... I also added longer braided brake hoses to get the full amount of movement I could without putting them under any strain either (they needed replacing so just as easy to put the longer ones on)

If you are just using for on road and or gentle off roading, or if you still have the axle straps fitted, then you won't need to bother... but if you are buying new anyway then just as well get the longer travel ones in my opinion :)

I've had the same pro comps (+2") on my 2a for about 7 years with no probs and it gets some right abuse! But which ever ones you choose make sure they are gas ones and not standard oil filled ones, due to the paras working more than standard springs they recommend gas shocks as they don't overheat like oil filled ones when worked too hard.
