hi all looking for some help on this, i've currently got a mk4 dvd sat nav drive in my 2003 vogue, i've been using an old 2009 map disc upto today and everything has been working fine. i decided i should probably buy a new map disc which is 2015 maps plus speed cams etc, this also came with a v32.6 firmware upgrade to activate speed cams etc, so following the instructions door open, ignition in position 1 i ejected the map dvd and inserted the firmware update, cd rom detected loading software appeared on the display and then went blank and stayed blank, eventually after a few mins the cd ejected and i now have a blank screen, during the process the power light was flashing about once per second on the mk4 drive. i have tried as low as v25 but again it whirs and buzzes with the power light flashing until it ejects the disc but still no display. is the unit bricked or is there some kind of reset i can try? currently unit is unplugged as it was suggested on bmw forums to leave unit disconnected for a hour or .

just a quick update, left the nav unit disconnected all night, just been and replugged it and still i get a blank screen, put a v23 firmware update in, this went through the motions and ejected the disc after 4/5 mins, i removed the disc at this point power led was flashing on the unit, went to the front pressed right button and the unit rebooted, slight whit line/flicker accross the top of the screen then stayed blank, i then retried the v32.6 again and exactly the same!, so luckilly i still had my old mk3 drive i've put that back in for now and everything is working again. any ideas how to fix this mk4 unit? going to leave it 24/48 hours see if it resets but not holding much hope

yes definately right update, my drive is the mk4 unit (dvd on the front) it previously i believe had the mat stevenson firmware installed, or to be precise it had his land rover green oval with range rover underneath splash screen

So it had non standard firmware? If so it is unlikely to accept your update IMO.

The mk4 is prone to laser failure. You could just be unlucky and it chose to fail when you did the update. Lots of people offer a repair service on eBay but apparently it's not hard to do if you're confident. The led flashing can be an indication of not reading the disc. Unfortunately, no real way of testing it. Not sure if something like Navcoder would reveal anything.

i was thinking navcoder just incase something is playing up, the mk4 however so i'm told has 2 lasers in the head one for cd one for dvd, the dvd one is prone to failiure as it's always used, the cd laser is only used for updates. ive got a replacement firmware disc coming which is being tested before it's sent to make sure it's fully working, reading on various bmw forums this issue is not uncommon upgrading the mk4 but usually a known working firmware disc corrects the issues so fingers crossed it will come back to life

Guys while we're on the topic of SAT NAV, My 2002 L322 is completely standard in terms of sat nav units in the boot.......which one will I have? is it a BMW MKIII??

i meant to post i did sort this problem in the end, i contacted carphonics who said they couldn't fix it, i then took to eBay and found a company called electronicsde (i think) anyway sent it to him he re-programmed it to my car reinstalled the firmware and it all came back to life
