Missing VIN Plate

Hi,

One book says every vehicle must have a VIN plate ....... which were not invented until a long time after they invented Land Rovers. A CHASSIS plate is not a VIN plate. Neither are the numbers stamped onto your chassis, that is just a chassis number. The plate on your bulkhead shows the COMMISION number.

The last time I met this problem, I phoned my wife to look at the V5 and tell me the chassis number. At that time (still?) it was not a MOT fail for a pre-1980 vehivle to NOT have a VIN plate, and my tester knew that..

hi

Having had several conversations with vosa and the dot I have been told that a self-adhesive sticker with vehicle identity no. written on and stuck to the vehicle is acceptable for an mot.

This not in my best interest to tell you, as I do sell replacements for those who want a more permanant solutions , but a sticker will get you through an mot in an emergency.

If you prefer a metal period look replacement you can find a good variety at Chassis & Vin Plates Home

Hope this info is of help.
