Yeah I can go to Coates in the morning and get some 80x80 box and some scraps for practice.

if you can loosen up the rubbers a little so you have enough free to get a couple of turns on either end you can slowly get it in.

I'm anticipating this problem later in the year when I have to swap the gearbox in the series 2 over for the one that came out of my series 3 in place of the R380 box

So it'll be new mounts and a lot of brute force ;)

Leave that as last option, it will fit if everything is in the right place!

If engine has been messed with you could always split the two and do it that way, get gearbox on its original mounts and then mount engine so you have at least one original datum to work with

I'd split the two then, mount gearbox properly on its original mounts then fit the engine second by mating to box and seeing where it should line up, if its twisted its never going to be right

best path really, will take you less time then. While bodywork is off can split engine and box easily, mount box on rubbers, angle it flat using spirit level and prop to correct height, cut engine mounts, mate up again and weld in engine mounts again making sure they're levelled correctly

May not even need to take them apart tbh, with engine crane can lift up box and engine in one, drop box into mounts and bolt up then lower engine into its correct place
