Missing bolt under gearbox

I have a new (April '11) Defender 110. Does anyone know why there is a bolt missing under the gearbox, between the gearbox and the chassis? The hole in the gearbox it tapped and the chassis has a hole the right size, ready for a bolt
Is is because the gearbox (MT-82) was changed and the chassis not? Was it a mounting point? Do I have a screw loose?

I'm no expert, but it could be the pre-threaded hole to fit a wading plug into... does it look like it would allow water into somewhere or is it *clearly* supposed to be holding two things together?

there is a hole that looks like that ,its normal ,it would be used if gearbox was used in different vehicle

Wouldn't have thought that the gearbox would fasten directly to the chassis, even if the holes line up, as it would make it too rigid! Is there space between for a mounting of soome sort, to which could be fitted an 'optional extra'?

On the other hand, have you done anything silly, like drive it over a bump? It is a Landy FFS! Bits are meant to drop off!! (Or does that only happen with mine?)

Have you developed any oil leaks yet? ... You will!!

Thanks for the answers. It does look like there should be something like a mounting in between the chassis and gearbox but it's never been used. Don't think anything dropped off (perhaps they forgot to put it in at the factory?
Or I guess jamesmartin is right and it's just obsolete.
No oil leaks yet - are Transits also bad for that?

Never had a Transit! I'll stick with my own rusty chassis, thanks!

:doh: Why did I just say that about my almost-completely-recycled Landy? It's probably sitting ouutside lisening! :alien:

Seriously though, it would not be a good idea to attach the gearbox directly to the chassis. Apart from the noise, you would probably find that it starts to fall apart due to the vibrations generated between the two!
