hi all,

My disco 2 had a td5 which has been great until a couple of days ago. It's suddenly running on only 4 cylinders, and therefore also massively down on power.

The fuel pumps working as the 4 cylinder are working, there is no engine warning light on the dash, if you floor it when not driving it will eventually rev up however if driving it will stall under load.

If it was a petrol engine you would say a spark plug was knackered!

It's going to a garage but would really appreciate thoughts on likely faults?

Cheers!!

Hi chaps,

Thanks very much for your advice - it was the injector harness and was oily but not saturated - anyway replaced and all is well - I shall be inspecting the red plug on a regular basis for now to make sure all swell at that end - thanks!!

Check it at the multiplug where it goes in the cylinder head. That way you can see as soon as it starts leaking and nip this sort of thing in the bud. Better still if you have a fault code reader because this can detect 'peak charge long' errors which can be a sign that it's on its way out. By the time the oil has worked its way back to the ECU it's been leaking for ages and has soaked the whole main engine loom, which you don't want.
