Hi I am a new member to the forum and hoping for some help.
I have a 1997 ES 2.5 TDI Auto with 94,000 miles on the clock.
One persistent problem I have is a misfire on kickdown or when climbing with a full load.
My local Disco agent (although I get the feeling that they are not really interested in 'old' models) have checked the fuel supply and re calibrated the computer settings but there is no improvement.
The symptoms are as follows. On kickdown the engine revs increase to 2600rpm then the engine falters for 1sec increases for 3secs to 2900rpm and falters for 1sec, increases to 3200 and so on. Locking down a gear makes no difference and the maximum revs that I can get out of the engine is 4400rpm.
Is there any bright mechanic out there that has experienced and cured this fault.
Waiting in anticipation

If it's the 300 tdi it sounds as if it might be sucking a little air into the fuel somewhere just before the lift-pump, and the self-bleeder on the filter head (probably being blocked) isn't clearing it.

Find the filter head, take off the upper banjo nut, find the air bleed hole (it is very small) clean it out, put it back together, and ask RevJames to say a little prayer for you.

Thanks CharlesY
My Disco is the 300Tdi model. I will give your suggestion a try and look to the heavens.

Hi to CharlesY
I have taken off the top banjo connection but cannot see any evidence of an air bleed hole (apart from the air bleed screw on top of the filter casting). Can you advise me further please?

Give us a photo of the top of your fuel filter please.

Slightly wrong - they are not REMOTELY interested in old models. And they probably don't care much about the new ones either. Find yourself a reliable man (or woman) who understands Landrovers.
