I have to replace the callipers and brake pipes on my 1997 Defender. The pies look like m10 and fit the brass 3- wat fitting on the axle, but the calliper end seems a tight fit (OEM callipers from paddocks) could they need an imperial fit?

Buy a selection of 3/8 and m10 fittings, then you are covered on all bases, the pipe is the same 3/16 4.7mm diameter.
Some fittings and their threaded holes are deeper than others.
You can mix and match different fittings on the same pipe, ie metric one end and imperial the other.
If you install a threaded fitting and it seems to loose or tight then it is most likely the wrong thread.

Yes, it looks like the wrong thread. Thanks for the reply. I'm Sure it is 3/8, but the pipes have M10, both ends, and were marketed as for a defender.

You may find they went metric after a certain model year.
