Metal filings in oil filter

Hi, new to the forum.

Is it a common issue to find metal filings in the oil filter? The car is a 2016, 4.4 V8, and has done 45,000 miles

Does anyone have any advice please?

Tdv8? No 4.4 petrol in a 2016. Full fat or sport?

I wouldn't be very happy if I found them in mine. Wouldn't say it's common on the 4.4tdv8 if thats what yours is. Has it got good service history? How long you had it and who found the filings?

Yes it's the diesel.

It's fully approved servicing.

LR dealer found the filings then?

Sorry I had to check.

Sorry the last service, last month, was carried out by a specialist, who found the filings. His advice was just to get rid of the car.

All other services have been main dealer.

Edited to add: I have only owned the car for 9 months.

I'd be just happy it got to 450000 miles

Any warranty from where you bought it?

@lynall will be able to advise on filings in filter. If they're magnetic its crank/block wear i think, if not I think that's bearings

Shouldn't be there anyway, maybe a very small amount of very fine paste-like metal is acceptable in a high mileage engine

Your mechanic is assuming heavy wear and engine is on borrowed time, if you do get rid do next owner a favour and declare it

Anyone who buys a new generation JLR product second hand is IMO beyond help

Is that the engine with the 2 turbos that are known to go?
