Just been up to have a look at my P38 that was leaking water. The heads
where all leaking at the edges front & rear form the water way. The engine
is in fine fettle with virtually no wear or shiny pistons etc indicating
there is no problem with liners etc!! The bits leaking are the very outer
edges of the block/head about 5mm thin.

A couple of blocked breather & hoses to sort too, but should have it back
Thursday!!!

Nice one Nige.
My new engine gets delivered tomorrow, all being well should be running
by Friday. Two fit P38's back on the road (or off road) by the weekend.

Same as yours, V8 4.6 but with only 99k.
Suddenly developed a nasty tapping noise after a run to Chichester. We
thought this was cam/followers but found half a piston in bits in the
sump. Looks like slipped liner caused piston to break up. The cam was
also fecked on a couple of lobes.
New engine from RPI arriving today, wifes credit card looking a bit
sorry for itself!!

Meter is running, £3,150 inc VAT for a new full engine, I thought it
would be a false economy to get a short considering the age of the
remaining bits that would need to be reused. All the other bits,
gaskets, flex plate, oil, etc, etc plus labour to add on. OUCH
Hopefully will get a bit back when I go to sell it later.

No chance matey, keep it running. Think of it this way, you dont owe any money on it so have no
repayments on a monthly basis. Think of the original purchasers payments etc. £3000 is a lot of money,
but it's a lot less than a years payments on ANY lamd rover!!!

Then you still have to maintain them.

It maybe worth 10% of it's original cost, but it's not 10% of the original car is it!!!

True Nige, I had no intention of getting shot of her before this
happened. The original owner was footballer Jamie Redknapp. You could
write on a pin head what I know about football but I wonder if its
history would make it worth more to the right buyer?? I have a copy of
the original docs showing his name and address in Liverpool.

Did you get it off eBay? I'm sure i saw it on there!

It could make a difference to be fair, it wouldn't to me unless his missis
was included in the deal for free!!!

Have you got any Bilstien dampers on it mate? They make a huge difference to
handling & ride etc.

Mind you, 3k for an engine is a bit different than £300!!!
