Me 110 in Bits

This, I hope, isn't to be a long or hard re-do job, but I have finally decided that I have a small amount of enthusiasm to actually do my 110, so, armed with Landy Zone and a hammer...

Out comes the roof lining & stuff:


This is the sort of stuff I knew about and wanted to sort:



Roof Off:


Rear window & drivers door off:


Typically, the other door refuses to come off - broke 2 impact bits so it's a cutting job..
And also, I have left all my hex keys at work, so can't get the screen off, but look what I did find...


Next to come off are the wings, so I can get to all the rot and get 'em cleaned up & sprayed. I kinda gave up with them at the moment as I am studying the 'How to' bit on them over lunch..

Don't have a firm plan of what I'm going to do to it in the end, so open to suggestions!

Spent the afternoon looking at various options and I have to say, I like the idea of being able to have an open top - I think 110's look good with them.
As I need to replace one door anyway, I am thinking of using Series style doors so I have the option to go topless if required.

Although it's a faff having to un-bolt the roof / rear cab section every time you want to open the roof!

I did consider going to canvas, but don't like the idea in the winter

Less chance of being nicked with the roof on. And you'll still get wet when it rains with the roof on.

Hippo, this section is for real men, go and play with the inbreds in your section please...

Run a soft top from april 'til September and then fit the hardtop for winter. That's what I've done in the past when I've had convertibles to use every day. You're only breaking out the spanners twice a year that way and get the soft top for most of the year.

That was one thought, but I'm not too keen on full - length canvas. suppose that it the trade-off

What are your plans for the bulkhead? Looks like it could to with quote a bit of work. Are you going to weld repair sections in or replace the whole thing?

I see your inner door frame on the driver's side has a weld in exactly the same place as mine. The person who'd done it had succeeded in welding that detachable inner panel to the frame too, so it was a bugger to get off when I had to replace my window winder mechanism.

You're in boaty land and claim to have used a saw. Make a ply former and do it in GRP.

Until I can get the thing fully exposed, I'm keeping an open mind... I'd rather not have the expense / trouble of replacing the whole thing if I'm honest.

As for the door, yes, it is, using an old Oil o Woi technical expression: Knackered Nipper!
I was considering replacing the whole door - then I saw the prices and had to lie down in a dark room, so they my go to series doors..

I missed out on a pair of GRP doors by 1 hour - bloke wanted £100 for them

Looks like YRM will be getting some business off you soon then. The nearside corner seems to have a repair panel on already, put over as an outer skin rather than let into the structure. That'll disclose a chamber of horrors when you take it off.

Wing Removal
Whip the seats out
Remove the roll bar thingy
Pub

I just converted one of my 110s to canvas and I have to say I love it. It's quite, less stuffy and o think they look great. But you do get wet. Not so much when it's raining and your moving but when your stuck in traffic etc.

How cold does it get in the iow in winter?

Glad to see the electrical installation has never been modified at all, ever...

It doesn't get as cold as the barbarian norf, but it can get nippy!
To be honest, what I'd really like to do is a Crew-Cab style conversion but having seen the price of a crew cab roof, I may have to think again

I know you can do a 90 roof cut & fix, but your left with the bit where the door closes into it and I think it looks weird..

You've got a busy afternoon ahead of you if you need it for work tomorrow.
