May buy a d3

Hi ,
Have had landies since 1963 when I purchased a series1 for £45. Last was a disco 300, 25 years old and Sent to razor blade factory. Was hoping to buy a disco3 but so many horror stories decided against. Unfortunetely once a land owner always a landy at heart.
At 82 thinking of looking for a good d3, reason for d3, as an older person could not afford the road tax on a d4,.nor purchase price.
Looking for a reliable vehicle, am I being unrealistic in looking to go on the disco route again?
At present have an X Trail to use as a 4 x 4 but still dreaming land rover.

Hi mate go for it the crank is the main issue with 2.7 and 3.0 in short servicing is the key lots of issues are inflicted by bad but quite simple maintenance read gstuarts buying/maintenance guides in the discovery section if its done 100k on original motor you probably have a good one my old D3 had done 270k
