7.50 is normal large size, but mate has just put 8.25 16 mich xzl on his 90 and reckoned he saw a couple of pics of s3 with the same tyres on, so maybe worth a google?
They are 34 inches tall, 30 3 inches taller than a 7.50 xzl, which basically means another 1.5 inches under the diff which is worth quite a bit.
Quite narrow so good in the mud.
You will loose some steering lock though.

I've got 9.00 x 16 Michelin XL on my Series III 88"
Mods required:
One Ton Shackles
Adjust Steering Stops
Trim front wings, front panel and back of bumper.
fit extended bumpstops to rear
remove bracing under rear tub above wheels.

Worth the mods if you use it off-road, tyres are 36.5" tall, gives 13" clearance under the diffs.

has putting those 9.00 tyres on increased the frequency of busted halfshafts or damaged any diffs ??

i ask as i'm considering the same at some time on my bitsa (i do like the stance on those tyres when on a swb), i'll probably be running 4.3:1 diffs though as i've a 200tdi up front powering it

I've blown a front diff and front prop, when I've jumped it. Rear one I've sheared a crownwheel, never broken a half shaft, yet!

If you're gentle you shouldn't break things. I've got a Detroit Locker in the back and I still haven't done shafts.

If I could lower the ratios further I would, I wouldn't go below 4.7:1

8.25's are like rocking horse poo in anything other than a lorry road tread pattern

bloody hell... a max. tyre size thread with no **** taking at all by page 2... i am impressed.

On a vaguely similar note... anyone got any 7.5's for sale? Need a complete new set

Yeah. That was with no mods whatsoever. No issues as of yet. Not fouling anywhere. My profile pic shows them on.

I've got a set that size, my Winter Tyres on Disco 1 steels. No problem at all with clearance with them, Disco Steels give the right offset too.

Mine were bought on black Modulars as a package deal. Fit and look awesome. Still gonna fit some 2" lift shackles in the spring. Just because I can.

Possibly a slightly numpty question, but where do you get that sort of sized tyres from? Had a look at most of the 4x4 online tyre suppliers for an indication of pricing and the largest most of them seem to go to is 265 75R16 :(

I've got 235 85's on at the moment and I was still getting beached in ruts over the weekend, a bit more size would probably help (my missus keeps saying something similar too ;) )

265/75's are the same diameter as 235/85's so they won't help if your grounding.....

As for your question there's a little known but quite effective search engine called........no wait......the names slipped my mind

I know about the similarities between the two sizes :) I tried googling but couldn't find any decent answers, so thought I'd post here where I knew I'd get a wealth of sensible and non sarcastic answers ;)

Jon, got mine from Vass, Tyres - L W Vass Ltd

Awesome, cheers :)
