So are you saying that the codes don't log until you take it up to the limiter, after which point the RPMs are cut to 3k?

Just a few things to note, which you might not be aware of. The 5100 RPM limiter isn't a target engine speed, it's an absolute maximum speed, and shouldn't be reached except under extreme circumstances. This engine delivers full torque (of 500Nm) at just 1500 RPM, and peak power of 237 BHP at 4k RPM, so there's absolutely no need or benefit to revving beyond that point. It's a diesel which isn't designed to work like that. I believe the ECM could be putting it in limited performance mode, possibly to protect the engine from an abnormal drive cycle.

As for the fault.
I suspect there's an issue with the DPF as already suggested. At stupid high RPMs, it's upsetting the whole induction circuit, hence the random induction codes.

My advice would be have the DPF cleaned or replaced, or buy a vehicle that's actually designed to be driven like a sports car.
Thanks - im not driving it like a sports car nor do i want to - its just a way of describing a noticable before/after performance of the car in general. The DPF is new and was replaced by JLR in August and they now claim its not the cause of the problem and want to charge us 170 quid to re-diagnose it.

to try and better describe it - imagine you are at a roundabout and you see a car approaching from the other side. you know you have time to accelarate and get "smartly" to 25-30 mph - not Formula 1 style - just normal style. Its default known behaviour of the car. Now imagine at the same roundabout in the same situation, you are 100% sure that if you pull out at that same point, the other car will be impeded and have to slow down because your car isnt accelerating fast enough.
Similarly, joining the motorway is uphill and requires ALL of the onslip to get to just 30 mph although over a long period of time it will eventually get to 70 mph - just not at normal speeds/revs. i am absolutely not rallying it around :)

The codes i always take after a run - i park it up on the drive and switch on the ignition only and take a reading.

About ten seconds after starting the car i get a red triangle warning light and a message saying "restricted performance"
 
so quick update i bought a new MAP sensor and plugged it in and nothing has changed i still get the same behaviour. i have cleared the logs and am getting no new errors

the evidence is that you dont get that MAP related fault code anymore, that's the evidence
hello again long time no see - been getting some work done. Still getting restricted mode. i have gotten someone out with a better OBD thing and cleared all the errors - there were others my OBD didnt detect such as:
PCM (Power Control Module)
P0691-11 fan 1 control circuit low - circuit short to ground
P2269-68 Water in Fuel (WIF) condition - Event Information
P26CC-11 Engine coolant pump control circuit low - circuit short to ground
P06DB-11 Engine oil pressure control circuit low - circuit short to ground
P25AA-11 Piston cooling oil control circuit low - circuit short to ground

All show as "intermittent"
 
Seems that the engine harness is chafed somewhere and has an intermittet short to ground or it's corrosion in a connector which shares all those circuits
 
dont suppose you know where this is most likely to happen? or how to find it :-( thanks
Unfortunately i've never touched such engine but as i saw from the diagram those sensors are hardwired to the PCM so if you start from there and follow the harness maybe you see some point where it can rub against something...unless the PCM has an internal fault
