Freelander 1 MAF unplugged and MOT

Morning All,
will it be detected if a MAF is unplugged for a MOT? Especially for smoke emissions? Do they check on fault codes or so kind of things?

If the eml is on then its a fail

Why do you have the MAF unplugged is it not working properly ie makes the car go into limp mode? always best to clean the EGR, & manifold out a couple of days or a week before the MOT, change PCV filter, air filter etc basically do a service on your car a week before the MOT always works well for me, both cars never failed and no advisories for the last 12 years.

it will probably fail emissions.
i.e. mine did, as i had the maf removed for last years test.

No. it's not on and last year I had three amigos and it passed.

No the MAF should still be fine, even though it's a 25£ off ebay one. I have a new Bosch around as well, but testing as it seems that power is better without and fuel seems to be better as well. It's a bit up and down, might be more related to the missing temp. sensor on the MAF.

No, the MAF should work. It's a cheap one off ebay for 25£, but that new it should be ok. It was just that again it runs with more power when off. I have a new Bosch here as well, which I'll fit sooner or later. Fuel is also around 31mpg also going up and down, but I think that might be related to the missing temp. sensor.

No note about the MAF not connected and that's why failed or just failed due to bad emissions? What did you do, connect and go back?

i knew it might fail emissions sans maf.
only one way to find out fer sure ;-/
[ was curious as the engine had been re-mapped in between mot's
[ plus i had a maf issue in anycase .. y.t.b. resolved ..
[ been running mafless at mo.

Yes, I am curious as well. Having no remap, but some emissions saver still. Might give it a try.

having passed the test with an unplugged MAF sensor, but as the value as being expected is really bad I will plug it back in again.
It says here: - 3rd free acceleration smoke 2.43l/m at 4815RPM.
This was an A4 print out. I am not sure if it is the same as in the years before when I got a small slip print out.
It was
2018: 31/1/18: 1.18 or 1.08 best MOT
16.03.18 .94 or 0.85 where it says pass was after installing the emission saver piece
29.03.18 0.21 MOT AU (smoke emissions in Germany)
12.04.18 .63* or .59 where it says pass
01.02.19 .62 or .79 where it says pass
29.01.2020 .36 or .42 where it says pass
02.03.2021 .53 also on pass first time
Last year I didn't get a paper and forgot to ask. Is that for the same value? Because then it's really poor now and I will attach it again.
I still think it would be good to disconnect but only leave the temp. sensor attached to regulate the fuel amount.
I found a picture on a German forum for VW/Audi last week, which looks as an alternative to the wires. To drill a small hole on the backside of the MAF to increase flow. They said it's if the MAF is dying to get its life extended a bit. To drill very cautious to not destroy the metal behind it.
